Even Pep with the players at his disposal will change tactics players and formations to suit different games
I think with Europe and doing in well in the cups, you have to rotate, there’s no real option.

Will be interesting to see if James, Davies & Coleman are fit for Thursday.

But having a settled 11 always makes a massive difference. Over the last few year wolves, Leicester and Liverpool are the 3 teams that seemed to pick the same 11, 9 games out of 10. Injuries obviously have had a big impact on Liverpool, wolves haven’t had that many but have struggled to cope.

Leicester to be fair have had a few and coped very well.

This years settled team is West Ham, who apart from Antonio missing a few games. It’s the same 11 most weeks. They’ve since added Lingard. But it makes a huge difference if you can pick a settled team and even More so if it’s your best 11.

I don’t think we’ve had our best 11 available since the 5th game.

Pep kind of has a settled system overall, but he has the best players, and the most money to sign replacements if needed. So it makes sense for him to have the view "we are Manchester City, if we do what we do well, we will win" so focus on a single system.

Sides at the bottom, are always going to be the weaker team, so again it makes sense to learn a simple system, you use every week, as you are the underdog every week.

We are the epitome of a side in then middle, who have always sat on our own island between the big 6 and the rest. It makes no sense for us to have a single system. If we are not creative against the top teams we will lose, and if we are predictable against the poorer teams they will find solutions for us.

I do get that it works in Germany, but in Germany they have a culture where they give their coaches time, andmost of the similarly sized clubs to us are not at risk of relegation if they have a bad season (and it's not as catastrophic).

Thats a great point, and you've seen this season with Wolves and Liverpool, when a few injuries occur they do plummet.

To a degree Leicester have avoided this fate, but it's only really now they have had some mounting injuries, this is really going to be the litmus test for them. I could see them struggling like last season.

He's tinkered with things but once he finds the set up he largely sticks with it. And fwiw I always found that he lost CL games more often when he got scared and changed things in a meaningful way for a specific threat than when he just believed in his standard game.

I think rail companies are in charge of transfers, im sat on oxenholme station n its £2.30 for a can of coke, ridiculous. Transfers something something

Looks like others have noticed the same thing...
Pickford made two important saves in two games so the previous two years of being terrible aren't an issue anymore is some stunning logic. Which apparently is also a popular view around here now.

I still see 4-3-1-2 as the best option for us because it puts our best players (namely Richarlison, Digne and James) in positions to succeed. And if you take last night's team and swap James in for Gylfi I'd say the 3 positions most in need of an upgrade remain RB, GK and central midfield. If we aren't going to commit to that setup we need a RW too. But GK and RB are absolute must signs for this window.

Pickford has always been an exceptional reactionary keeper. He's EXCELLENT at things that take no time to think about, just to react. His downfall has always been not these issues.
