I think if we spend big on any position it should really be for a properly electric winger, I still think we’re missing someone with real pace who can beat their man
I think pace is overrated.

We showed how you combat kick and rush football last night.

Speed of thought and moving the ball quickly is different than pace, I feel that's what we lack, somebody who drives with the ball and doesn't put their foot on it like for example what Gomes and Iceland are prone to doing.

Look at the boy Hamez, there are snails that move faster, but the way he got that ball under control and instantly slotted through Rico, that's the pace we lack, the pace in the head.

When teams pack 2 teams of 4 at Goodison, pace wont break that down, moving the ball fast, pulling apart their shape, that's how you break the lines, if there's no space, how will Usian Bolt pace help?

Pace does help of course, especially defensively but more ballers are what we need.... Rabiot? :coffee:

Let's face it, our summer 2020 signings haven't exactly set the place on fire.
Godfrey - hit the ground running. Can play right across the back 4. Been very consistent and is already a fans favourite. Wouldn't be totally surprised if he made the England squad this summer.
James - Missed quite a few games with injury but still contributed 8 assists and 5 goals from 21 games. Has lit up games with his brilliance and should have had better assist figures had the strikers not wasted some glorious chances. I'm 60 and he is the classiest player I have ever seen in pu Everton blue.
Allan - Another who's season has been frustrated by injury. But when he's played he's been very effective in the midfield. Back to fitness now so will hopefully play a big part in the run-in. Wrong to down rate him purely because of his injuries
Doucoure - Probably the least effective of our summer signings but still an upgrade on what we had before. Has influenced many games this season and can certainly be considered more of a success than a failure.

We have a starting XI that is capable of beating any other team in the league. I really am not frightened of playing anybody with our first choice players available. And all 4 summer signings would be a fixture in most peoples starting lineup.

I think having a whole team of flat track bullies is definitely overrated, but it is still important to have a few players with pace and who can beat a man in attack. I do completely agree with you on the necessity for someone to drive forwards with the ball, but I’d love a Leon Bailey kind of character for the right wing, especially if we go 4231 with James as a playmaker

It's difficult to know what the midfield will look like until we know how reliable Allan is or isn't going to be, but I think there needs to be a shift towards being able to dominate the ball a bit more. Davies and Doucoure are capable of making pests of themselves, and there's no rush to move them on, but Gomes's time in England has to be done now.

Maybe King will turn out to be the perfect alternative in attack, but there definitely needs to be an effort made to improve at right-back.

I dont even think we lack players with pace.

DCL and Rico are rapid, Doucs has a bit of a burst, as does Allan, the boys at the back have pace for days.

I think we look slow at times and I really don't want to keep doing this, but cos the likes of Gomes and Iceland have a playing style that makes them look slow.

You need pacey players, but I think some people think we need a team of Adama Troadonkeys, headless chickens with no end product.

Reuben Loftus-BEAST

Ya'll can have that one for free ;)
You have my vote on that one Mikey

He's a special talent that has had his career to date blighted by injuries. He get's a lot of undeserved stick on here for some reason. It seems edgy to slag him off and I don't know why. But I wasn't in the slightest surprised by his domineering display against us last week.

He would be an excellent squad addition in my opinion. But he would cost around £30m, and we have a fullback, right sided striker and possibly a back up to Dom to buy before we set our sights on midfield, so we may not have the funds. I'd be made up if we got him though. His ceiling is very high IMO. He has everything in his locker ability wise. I'm just not convinced abut his ambition and attitude and of course hos fitness reliability.

Yeah I don’t get it either

At his best he’d not only get into our current midfield but he’d improve it also

I just think he ticks a lot of peoples bias boxes and they see what they want to see as a result
