The question is though. Are they the best we could get and the answer is no, but improving on what we’ve got is not easy as they are good players. And it would cost a lot of money.

But just excepting they are good enough, keeps us in 7th,8th, 12th and it’s the reason we haven’t won anything in years.

The job for Brands, ancelotti and Moshiri is to keep improving the team the best we can. Personally I don’t see Keane and Mina as
Our main CB pairing at the start of the 22/23 season.
When I look at centre backs I think we have a really good blend of talented players that compliment each other, and are of a very good age. Ideally I would want a left footer in there for balance, but we have 2 young lads out on loan that may be able to step up in a season or 2. Keane is quite possibly at his peak level, but I can only see the other 3 improving over the next couple of seasons.

I look around the premier league and, apart from 2 or 3 (who are both already at top clubs) I don't see many centre backs that make me say, I wish he played for us. And I totally disagree with your summation that sticking with the existing group keeps us in 7th, 8th or 12th. Only City and possibly Liverpool (when fit) have a better group of centre backs than us in my opinion.

So who are these centre backs you speak of that will improve our squad?

I use to think but not so sure now whether RB is top priority.

Holgate, Keane, Godfrey, Digne. Why would you want anything else, they are becoming the best backline in the league.
(Mina and Coleamn as back up, Nkoku and Small as well). And, all the backs can rotate through positions thanks to Carlo, remember Digne at CB)

Coleman Davies and Allan would be my first choice midfield.
Coleman and Holgate dealing with attacks on the right and Allan and Godfrey on the left with Digne given the freedom to attack and cross.
Its dynamic in possession and will get us moving forward more often than what we've had in the past.

Davies is surpassing Gomes and Sig and he's only 22. He's become better at turning defence into attack than both and his positioning in the centre is something we have been lacking for a very long time. And he's offers more than what someone like Gana. And by doing this he's also created the opportunity for Allan to play to play in the no.8 Gomes, Sig role which you'd think he'd make a better go of. Allan is not going to allow players to get past him like the other two do. And reckon he be more effective on the ball.

We do however need a player who can come in/takeover from Coleman. So for me the priority is RW (with maybe the potential to play RB if needed)
We desperately need someone who can dribble their arse off through players and create the width and space. And it'll probably cost a lot of coinage. Better spent here than in other positions.

If going to go for someone else it would be in the 10 role to fill in for James. I suppose a lot depends on whether Sig or Gomes will be around.
Then it would be another striker.

Whatever the case, the team is taking shape and its got as much potential as arteta, cahill, piennaar team with a major difference, its got carlo, brands and dollars behind em.

Pickford (if he can go on from here)

Holgate, Keane, Godfrey, Digne
(Mina)

Coleman, Tom, Allan
(Douc + RW)

James
(? or Sig, Gomes)

Dom, Richarlison
(? or King)

And Small, Onyango to come through.

Heard theres a lad called Ben Davies at Preston we should look at.

Holgate, my money is on Holgate.
We're talking 18 months away. We don't have to make a decision on that now. Somebody may have had a bad injury, or run of injuries that effected form. Somebody may not have developed as expected. Somebody may have had their head turned and go for big bucks.

We need to replace Kean, who will not want to come back, with genuine pace. We are weak against sides who park the bus. We need to pass better against the best teams.

RB /RWB with real pace
Centre mid - good passer with real pace
Front 3 cover with real pace

Without DCL, we are way too slow still.

Well they have Zouma who most of our fans wanted to buy after his loan and he can’t get a game, for Chelsea. We also wanted tomori who also doesn’t get a game so maybe they have got better than us.
That was to add to what we had, not replace them. Well at the time many would have considered replacing Keane, but that was 18 months ago and he has been one of the best defenders in the league since then. Certainly better than Zouma and Tomori.

And since both players were linked we have bought Godfrey. And I doubt there's a single poster on here who would rather we'd bought one of the Chelsea lads ahead of him.

I'd love to see either raphina or neto at our club. Also, adama traore. Some here think he's useless. Cant agree with that I'm afraid. Opposition players cr@p their pants when someone with his pace, power and skill run at them. Not a bad goal tonight either.
We need that type of player I agree. A pacey winger who can beat a man and score goals.

Because of the lockdown I have watched lots of games this season , I am lucky enough to have seen all our games on tv. I have also seen a lot of other teams games as well. I must say I have been really impressed with Harvey Barnes at Leicester, I don't think we could get him, but what a difference he would make to our team.

You’re right, we could not get him.
