I have a tough time deciding how good he and Harrison really are. I mean you can see the talent but surely they're helped a ton by playing in a team that sends about everyone forward in attack at all times.

Look at what Chelsea did. Not that we should do that exactly because it's a sham but stockpiling talent means some of it will come good. When you've got only a few young players they kind of have to be at least useful backups or the squad gets real thin real fast.
Don't disagree but they also propped up their ability to spend well being their means with FFP because of that by spending on youth they had no intention of ever playing, loaning then out and then selling them at profit.
We should and I suspect once Brands has some wiggle room we will sign more.
I know people bash him a lot and I know im biased, but he was left on the whole a pile of horse manure.
Again, yes, hes added to it with Delph, Iwobi and Bernie to name but a few, but he backed DCL, hes brought in Niels and Branthy, plus the boy Godfrey and yes I know, Carlo signings, but under Brands we have also added Rico, Allan, Doucs, Hamez, Mina, Gomes and missing somebody, but we are moving in the right direction regarding squad building.
Add the players he didn't buy like Holgate, Dom, Davies, Keane and we are certainly moving in the right direction, we just need to move on a bit more tosh and once space appears in the squad we have room for people to fill the gaps that are currently being used by the likes of Bernard on 140k a week.
Again we need to sign less Allans and Hamez, but Hansen said all those years ago, you do not win anything with kids and people laughed at him, but the spine of that United side wasn't kids.

It's a mix but the last two windows have certainly shifted us toward the older side of that mix. It is probably time to come back especially in midfield where aside from Davies and I guess Gomes who I still don't totally trust any of them could suddenly be staring at the backside of their career on short notice.
Cos Carlo innit.
He wanted Allan and he wanted Hamez, he needed them ready to go and I know you "dislike" Allan a little, but they have both come in and made a difference.
Sadly the wastage we have within our current wage bill hampers us a little, but once we have shifted a few we should start seeing a proper plan.
While Carlo is here we will probably retain some short term thinking, I think that's sensible, I know you will disagree, but you don't give Carlo Ancelotti a squad that bears fruit in 3-4 years.
