ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

A 3-0 defeat because Liverpool cannot gain entry to the game would not stand up in court. It's a threat to make Leipzig comply.

I mean, maybe Liverpool have to move a bit here. Potentially, fly in on the Monday, quarantine for 2 days in a hotel, get tested and play the Thursday. That could be acceptable for the German governent?

On your two points - one re court - I dont think there is a case to answer really. Whether it's fair or not under the CL rules, it's Leipzigs problem, but I have no doubt a solution will be solved.

Re 2 days quarintine, in hotel why would liverpool do that? Would you expect PL games to me moved to accomodate?

No Liverpool game yesterday but the Daily Telegraph Sport (alias Liverpool FC promotion pamphlet) has a double page spread on all things RS. (Even though they are only 4th in the league)

Well there are no "rules" for this are there? They have initially said to Leipzig to try to find a solution.

We have already seen in the summer, if UEFA has the wrong rules, they will get challenged and thrown out. This will be that sitution. Impartially, this is not Leipzigs fault. They can fulfil the match and would be happy to do so.

As for Liverpool, well for the greater good and to get the game played. Clearly the Germany governent see them as a potential threat, which given the behaviour of the likes of Salah earlier in the season is perfectly reasonable. So there needs to be a good will gesture from them.

As for PL games, PL games have been moved haven't they? We did the right thing with City and Aston Villa. Teams need to do the right thing in these situations, and do what they can to get fixtures played.

A hotel quarantine may swing it, and seems the fairest way, given at present they aren't able to fulfil the fixture.

I agree with that and think a solution will be found, but for the key point is the onus, as it stands, is with Leipzig

The initial suggestion is for Leipzig to look for alternatives. This will be reviewed as time goes on. I have to say, I find that a very strange reaction from UEFA, even to put any initial suggestion to Leipzig, but it won't go much beyond that. Hopefully everyone knocks their heads together and they can reverse the fixture, and we won't have Liverpool/Leipzig taking one another to court over this match (which would fall down on the side of Leipzig if it were, as Liverpool would have failed to turn up).

Agree with the knocking heads suggestions and I think common sense will probably prevail. Whole-heartedly disagree re Court - the rules are clear, the onus is on Leipzig & I dont see how it is a CAS / general law matter

It is no different to Leyton Orient earlier in the season, it sucked for the LO, but frankly during Covid, it is what it is

The difference is though, Leyton Orient couldn't play. In this instance Leipzig can play, it is Liverpool who cannot make the trip.

If Leipzig werre saying "we can't field a team" thats fair. Thats sort of the opposite of whats happening here. Maybe UEFA think they can pressure the German government via Leipzig, but to do that they will need some complicity and good will from Liverpool too (which is fair).

I see your point Catcher, but at the end of the day it is not Liverpool's problem that they cannot travel, whether you think it should be or not is a different debate.

Well of course it's partially Liverpool's fault. It's more their fault than Leipzigs. They are unable to travel and fulfil the fixture. I'm not a big one for blame, as we saw with other situations, but from a legal standpoint, they cannot fulfil their obligation.

Lets hope nothing comes of it, and both sides are sensible enough to put something together. Either playing later in that week (and moving the derby to Sunday) or reversing the fixtures, or at a worst case finding an alternative place to play the game.

The RS Squad should disquise themselves as fish. One quick flash of their sexy Blue Passports at Calais and they will be waved right through to earn their living in the Single European Zooooooh...... perhaps not.
