Confirmed Signing Josh King

Infinitely better than Tosun, versatile and on a very low risk contract. Definitely good business, just not inspiring business.

Though given the circumstances and the lack of transfers being made in general, I am not displeased. Kenny, Tosun and Gordon going out leaves us overall a bit weaker in numbers but realistically, the three of them haven't had one positive contribution to our league season. Kenny is bang average and third choice now, Tosun is painfully out of his depth and Gordon just isn't quite there yet. King on the other hand is proven in this league and should, touch wood, be able to play his part.

Not overly excited by this but we definitely needed someone and the deal seems quite sensible, the one word I heard about this lad that made me happier was "pace" having pace off the bench is definitely something we have missed, even someone as limited as Enner Valencia made a difference of the bench with his pace, so fingers crossed Josh can added something different, right behind him now he plays for us

Not to put pressure on the lad but I think he'll be the single most greatest signing in the history of the transfer window and will slot 13 goals ensuring we finish 3rd.

He'll then turn down our contract offer in the summer and sod off to Spain to play for Atletico Madrid where we will meet him again in thr CL qf and due to his love for us and regret in not signing for us he will refuse to play for them and tie himself to a lamppost demanding that he's released on a free so we can sign him again. But we won't want him and he'll end up at Swansea.

But we'll always have the 13 goals he scored and the memories of finishing 3rd and in 15 years time we'll love listening to his stories when he's on the circuit for evenings with ex players as he pisses himself laughing that people thought he was going to sign for Fulham instead of us.

What a man, what a player, what a slotter, what a King!!!

I'd take King on loan because we badly need someone but it's got "100k a week for 3 seasons and 3 goals" written all over it.

There's only two types of transfers we should go for these days:
  • Experienced, comfortably CL quality player, at a short term cost which we accept in trade for the immediate improvement in the team. Allan for example.
  • Long term player who should be good enough to have an impact straight away, but with the general expectation that they won't be the finished article. Godfrey is one of these.
Anything else is risky/bad business. See Tosun, Bolasie, Sigurdsson.

I posted this yesterday before the details of the deal emerged.

It’s a funny arrangement but it’s truly a low risk one.

A 6 month contract at £70k a week (complete guess) is £1.8m.The fee is said to be up to £6m based on how we perform in the league, and how he performs.

I’m guessing if we pay anywhere near the £6m, it’ll mean we/he’s had a great second half of the season. If he flops, we can let him leave and we cut out losses.

He brings hard work, pace, versatility and a goal scoring record of 10-16 PL goals a season in a poor team. Let’s hope he can get 6 or 7 in the remaining games and he’d be worth the money.

I'm happy. I don't think he'll set the world on fire, but he has pace, has a decent enough scoring record and can play right across the front line. My main concerns about him were that we would give him a daft contract at the age of 29 and end up repeating the mistakes we have made with Sigurdsson, Bolasie, Walcott, etc by giving out contracts which we regret

A temporary deal until the end of the season is absolutely fine. Nice to see we are learning from the mistakes of the past.

The way I look at the King signing is that he is better than Tosun, Bernard and Gordon. he covers the whole front line so is not just a 1 for 1 back up. Not saying he is brilliant but he is certainly good and his versatality is something we desparately needed. The midfielders may have a good outlet in King. He will find space, run into space and exploit channels that will only help our midfield....especially James.
