I think we're in a catch 22 situation to be honest, and I'm feeling very uneasy about it.

1. DCL looks isolated and is basically no threat without a strike partner up there with him.

2. Our only other striker is Richarlison, and he's stinking the place out every game and doesn't deserve to be playing.

That leaves us with no option but to select a currently woeful Richarlison, meaning we look like we're playing with 10 men and a possible more effective threat is sat on our bench instead.

He did score and hit the bar only 5 days ago.

He will also have much more opportunity to get into the box than against Leicester.

Id have James and Mina on the bench for this match

Olsen
Holgate Keane Godfrey Digne
Iwobi Doucoure Davies Nkounkou
DCL Richarlison
Lots of strong runners.

See where we are after 60 mins.

James on the bench.

God, some of our fans are absolutely hopeless.

...DCL was isolated against Leicester because we have full backs who didn’t cross the half way line and no legs across midfield. Full backs pushing into the top third and the introduction of Iwobi and Doucoure will result in normal service for DCL.

Some the the Steve Bruce P/C

Steve Bruce provides an injury update

Federico Fernandez will miss nufc's trip to Everton tomorrow. Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett returned to full training yesterday but it may be a bit too early for them. They will be assessed today. DeAndre Yedlin looks set to be available after work permit issue was resolved.

Steve Bruce on transfers

Steve Bruce 'still hopeful nufc can get 'one or two' loan deals over the line before Monday's deadline.
I've got one or two calls to make to certain managers in the next 24 hours but, as I predicted, I knew it was going to be a difficult window," he said.

Steve Bruce on Hamza Choudhury

He’s somebody we’ve liked, and it’s [the interest] been reported. I’m never going to speak about anybody else’s players, I think that would be wrong.
But he’s somebody that we do like, yes.

We’ve had to be patient, but we’re still hopeful things will happen. I’ve got one or two calls to make to certain managers in the next 24 hours, but I always knew it was going to be a difficult window, certainly when you’re in the loan market.
We’re not alone. A lot of teams are financially struggling, especially in the Championship, for example.
It’s been very difficult in that respect, but we’re still hopeful we can get one or two over the line. We’ll see what the next couple of days brings.

Steve Bruce on Graeme Jones

It's something we looked at the best part of two months ago. We wanted to get somebody with different ideas who could give us a freshness and work alongside Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew. We made a few calls but Graeme was always our number one choice.

Steve Bruce on Everton

We played very, very well [in the home fixture]. We know we're capable and to be capable we need everybody fit and healthy and we're edging towards that. I was pleased with the second half against Leeds so let's hope we can build on that.

Steve Bruce on Matt Ritchie

Ritchie 'frustrated' at not playing every week. "If the right offer comes along for anyone in the squad..we have to make way to bring someone in," Bruce said. "So you can never say never but, certainly, with Matty, he's been here a long time so it will take a hell of an offer

Jetro Willems latest

It's a no go according to Steve Bruce.
I think Jetro hasn't played enough, unfortunately, and the problem we have in the loan market in particular is, is there someone who has played enough we can get? We're trying desperately to bring a couple through the door if we can.

Steve Bruce on assurances of surviving the sack

I wouldn't expect to be bulletproof, no.
I haven't (had any assurances).
We're in the Premier League, and we're judged on results - they haven't been good enough at the moment."

Steve Bruce and the letters....

Steve Bruce reveals fans have sent him letters: “I can bring you in a pile of letters I signed only yesterday. People wishing me good luck, telling me to keep bashing away. Not all doom and gloom but I understand their frustration totally.

Steve Bruce on teams below NUFC picking up points

They had bad runs at the start, which is why they're there.
We're having ours now.
You don't want a difficult period to last too long and ours has lasted too long but let's hope we can get a result & build some confidence

Olsen
Coleman Mina Keane Digne
Doucoure Davies
Iwobi James Richarlison
DCL

Pickford, Lossl, Holgate, Godfrey, Nkounkou, Gomes, Sigurdsson, Bernard, Gordon

You know what, I wouldn't even put Pickford on the bench. No need to ever have two keepers on the bench. Put Simms there instead or another lad from the u23s.

miles better than them, it's a must win game and we should win.

Only concern for me is they looked very good in the last 20 mins against Leeds, with Bruce awaiting the final nail in the coffin he might start the team that finished against leeds and let them go for it

Why would you have Digne behind Nkounkou and not Godfrey behind Digne? Didn't Nkounkou have a shocker in the reverse fixture?

Id play Digne left back for this one...rotate.

He's currently injured as well.

Good point, Gordon then.

James on the bench.

God, some of our fans are absolutely hopeless.

Dont you understand the concept of resting players against weaker teams and bringing them on if needed?

Never mind.

Coleman vs Saint-Maximin

God, some of our fans are truly hopeless.

Steve Bruce on Everton

We played very, very well [in the home fixture].

Both teams were shocking in that game. If that's the best they've got they're screwed.
