The L.C.A.B. / THT Transfer Window #2

Just heard that my figure of 4.5mil euro includes the loan fee and is an offer.

Everton have not sold Yobo.

We conceded 45 goals last season.....Moyes being an ex defender (and as many comment that we have negative tactics in a lot of games) I would have thought he'd be trying to take that down to under a goal a game.....

In my opinion, an ideal defence would have;
1 -- Attacking left back (same as Cole/Chelsea and Evra/Man Utd) Baines
1 -- Defensively solid Marshall of the defence (Same as Terry/Chelsea and Vidic/Man Utd) Jagielka
1 -- Solid but ball playing center back (Same as (previously) Carvalho/Chelsea and Ferdinand/Man Utd) Vertonghan linked before
1 -- Attacking right back (Same as Bosingwa/Chelsea and Rafael/Man Utd) Coleman ?

The reason I would go with 2 attacking full backs is quite simple.....we take the game to the opposition and due to the full backs strengths the opposition wingers are pushed back. Of course these full backs have to also be defensively capable which is why I'm unsure on Coleman -- is he good enough defensively.....I personally think he 'could be'.

I'd be keen to bring to see if Mustafi/Duffy are good enough to be groomed as our future centre back pairing and also whether Bidwell/Garbutt and Coleman are good enough in the full back positions....

If it's true that we did bid for Vertonghan last summer then Moyes may be looking at this area too.

Hang on... you spend half your time saying we're letting too many in... and then you moan that we don't have enough attacking fullbacks?

Hardly any teams have two out and out attacking fullbacks. And whilst I too would like to see that -- Coleman on one side, Baines on the other -- it just seems a bit odd that you should highlight defensive frailties and then ask for an attacking RB.

As for how many we conceded, and how it should be closer to one a game blah blah, that's arbitrary. All that matters is that we win games, for me, assuming your defense isn't a complete shambles. Which it wasn't. It just had to contend with a lot of awkward play, because of our ineptitude at the other end. Because if you keep attacking and don't score, the other team will always bite you on the arse. Often on the counter. No matter how good your defence is, if they keep getting exposed on the break because of poor play at the other end, then they will concede.

So to summarise;

Yobo -- 3.5mil (I heard 4.5mil so maybe extra with appearances etc?)

Demba Ba -- In talks
Back up keeper from a relegated side (Guessing Hahnemann)

Someone off Bluekipper links Anichebe with QPR 2mil rising to 3.5mil.......if only dreams could come true.

Wolves weren't relegated so it wont be him, how about Ben Foster? :D haha yeah right!.

And i wouldn't be against Big Vic leaving as i dont rate him but obviously Moyesy does so he wont be off.

If we can get Ba for a decent nominal fee and then still have some dough from sales, then im hoping we can sign a creative and quick winger or a creative midfielder that can play either wide or centrally.

I'm not sure why having 2 attacking full backs increases our chances of leaking goals -- as I wrote above it forces the oppositions wide players backwards.....

If Everton were attacking in an Arsenal-esque manner but just not finishing off the chances then we'd most likely let in less goals as we'd keep our shape. Our defence rarely has any shape at all.....

If you look at the top sides they have 2 attacking full-backs who can also defend. When one attacks the other stays back...and Vice Versa. At the moment Baines attacks and Neville stays back.....how often do you see them both attacking?

Having 2 full backs who are both able to bomb forward at different times will keep opposition players on their toes....lets face it having an opposition left winger who knows he's against Hibbert means he will hug the touchline and stay in our final 1/3 all game if he likes as he knows that Hibbert cant move forward.....if we have an attacking right back this would go some was to nuffily the oppositions attacking threat down both sides....

Baines can continue to bomb forward with the opposition right midfielder tracking back + knowing he shouldn't stay too far downfield....if Coleman (for example) was on the right flank then a left sided opposition player would have to be wary of his runs....thus forcing him to be more defensive.

The threat would then be pushed into the centre of the pitch and with 2 centre backs + Rodwell and Fellaini there we'd be quite solid.

With regards to the Yobo deal anything near £4m is very good. Considering we bought him in 2002 for about £5m.

Our defence was ok last season but it was the quality of goals conceded that made it seem like it was struggling - often from a defensive lapse or the odd Distin boo-boo.

2 attacking fullbacks = opposition strikers go diagonally wide, beat our offside and score around the back.

See Nzogbia, etc.

What got me wondering with this potential Ba deal is the Yak the sweetener for West Ham to negotiate first dibs with us. I read somewhere that BA had a nominal fee in his contract if they got relegated so it got me thinking.
