Completely agree.

Its not like we haven’t tried to. We bought Gomes Gbamin Allan Doucoure Delph so that we didn’t have to play Davies. 4 of them can’t stay fit though.

We got James to replace Siggurdson. He can’t stay fit. Iwobi is first choice ahead of Bernard. He can’t stay fit.

Moise Kean decided he didn’t want to ply for Everton.

In our best 11s in three different formations it’s probably only Coleman that might get in, as a right back in the attacking 433. The problem is our best players can’t stay fit though, we knew it would cost us at some point and it cost us in the league cup and now tonight.

That list of players needs to be punted though. I’d add Pickford to that list as well.
Not against moving Pickford on but he's done well in the last few games. That save at the end should have won us it - instead Doucoure and Coleman let Cresswell have a free shot at goal.

Need Carlo to find the balance between the start to the season winning run that was built on attack and the recent streak built on defence.

If we can get to that point then top 4 is a real possibility, but the negative, dig in style probably won't get us there.

Digne, Allan, a fit James and improved form for Richarlison should help him get to that point.

Still think we are a creative CM and pacey winger/forward away from having a squad that is capable.

Because we don’t have the squad to do both. That’s obvious. We showed we could play brilliant attacking football early in the season with flying full backs and James looking great with DCL bagging loads. Eventually though it showed up that Keane Mina and Pickford can’t keep clean sheets that way because they’ve got no pace and Pickford can’t defend his area well.

When the results dried up he had to change it so we went to a flat defence to cover the issues of the keeper and centrebacks and as a result our attacking output has decreased.

Carlo can’t magic up a top sweeper keeper, centrebacks with pace and power, a world class right back, and pacey powerful midfield players to cover, to allow us to play our attacking football effectively. He equally can’t magic up two pacey wide players and a load of creative midfielders to give us the ability to create loads with a flat defence.

He’s searching for balance with a squad where most players are slow, weak, and kee getting injured. It’s a difficult task but he’s getting it more right than wrong.
We've a better chance beating West Ham playing the first way.

You can take a leaf out of United at the moment. Not playing well, but have some quality in the squad a whole to make a difference

We're still lacking. If someone isn't on form it tells.

They can allow Fernandes to hve annoff day because if he it’s likely that one of Pogba Van der Beek, Rashford, Martial or Cavani steps up as a match winner.

DCL has had a few quiet games for us and no one has taken a game by the scruff of the neck.

No Digne, James not fully fit, no Allan. The players weren’t available to play the first way.

I know you’ll just say he should throw Nkonkou in, but for whatever reason Carlo obviously doesn’t trust him.
Then we continue to flip the coin. We could be sitting top in 3 weeks or 10th.

I think Ancelotti summed it up well. The way I saw the match, we played 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1 in defense, and in attack we played 4-3-3. The problem in attack was several:

1) Holgate and Mina were unable to take advantage of the numerical superiority. There were too many horizontal passes, and they did not challenge the opponent's line.

2) Davies must stop running after the ball when Holgate and Mina have the ball. He attracts opponents, and ruins the room for Mina and Holgate.

3) Gilfy, AD and DCL were all too often positioned on the same horizontal line. It is easy to defend against.

4) Richarlison and Bernard all too rarely attacked behind the defensive line of West Ham, instead they sought to position themselves in the central corridors.

5) Points 4 and 5, lead to us getting little width and depth in the game. It will be especially difficult to play between the lines. As West Ham's lines can have very short distances inside and between them.

6) We need to switch fields much more often, and then seek out the space between the lines.

7) We lose too many 1 vs 1 duels. In the future we need players with good 1 vs. 1 skills.

8) Neither BG nor Coleman are good at crossing the ball. Then we also lose DCL's greatest strength.

I've just fixed that mate.

We're gonna have to bide our time and hope for another good summer transfer window, Europa will be excellent with this team, Games like today are usually where the individual players stand out and we don't have many of them.
Relying on Siggy/Davies can only get you so far and it shown today.
