I've never really understood the aversion to Unsworth to be honest. Its partly down to unrealistic expectations of how many lads should be passed up. Partly down to 1 or 2 people on social media who in my view think their view of running a club is the only way, and where deviation occurs it has to be wrong. They have influence for sure. I think hes ok. But crucially Brands likes him. So really you cant slate Unsworth while praising Brands.
You are right in Gordon, he fits in and knows his responsibility with and without the ball. I think he has special attributes, his speed and character ge if direction are exceptional, he has good vision and a good shot. He also has a knack of scoring scruffy goals. It's quite a "package". He just doesn't put it together yet consistently. At 20, not many do. He can do more than lots of others can though.
We are not going to be giving him 30+games to hone his skills though, like we did under Martinez. He will play when he is ready to.show his best consistently. To a degree it's the transition from being a mid table team to one that sees itself differently. Ancelotti is ahead of that curve.
Gordon did very well in lockdown, but he was at times a shining light in a terrible performance. That is not going to be the basis he is selected on. He will either live up to the expectations on him, or not make it. I'm glad we now have a manager who has those expectations.
The same for Brainthwaite, Kean, Nkounkou etc. If they wont respond to that challenge, they will never be top 4 players anyway.
