Although i've experienced some very cool live jazz in times of my life and enjoyed it !
Double bass with piano, gentle drums, perhaps a guitar joining in 4 in the morning a bit wellied but happy to listen. But !
Radio 6 have decided in their wisdom to play random jazz throughout the day and it's doing my nut in !
Does anyone actually like the full on style ? or is it "Uncool" to say you don't ?
Random bleetings of too many instruments just doesn't do it for me.
What's the attraction ???

Enjoy.

There's two types of jazz. One is melodic and atmospheric with talented musicians capable if improvisation.

The other is discordant cacophony with people who own instruments thinking random noises are improvisation.

The bbc seem to prefer the latter in an assumption people will think them cool.

I choose both. This is part of my personal obsession from my youthful days. Don Ellis was fire in his time, and so is this band today.
Ganschie is ridiculous here. What a player.

This turned up in the post today - simply magical.

Audio enthusiasts often use this album as a recording reference to show off a system. Just phenomenal detail. Great atmosphere - like the band are playing and your home is a swanky wine bar.

It's an amazing album. I still have a vinyl version and a CD version, but now stream the mastered ( well, the 24 bit copy of the master ) version on some kit I bought over the first lockdown.

I can honestly say the original master has little bits of detail I never heard on either the vinyl or CD version. Well, I can say that, but I'm probably just trying to convince myself that that's the case !
