The thing that got me is, yes we’re missing key players and our second choices are lacking, but all the confidence in the team has evaporated in the last two weeks. A large part of sport is psychological. We made a great start to the season, winning the first few matches and gaining s draw against the champions, the best team in the world according to the media. Sadly, I think the two week media campaign against our team, telling them they didn’t play well in the derby and deserved to lose it, that we’re a dirty team etc has had an effect on our players. The media seem to have got what they wanted now with two poor performances from Everton and us losing our position at the top of the league to the media’s favourites.

Look there are some clear things identified from the game (which weve always known):

1. Gomes isn't going to cut it unfortunately
2. Sigurdsson makes us worse
3. Delph makes us worse
4. Kenny isn't good enough
5. Tosun isn't good enough
6. Iwobi isn't good enough
7. Mina isn't consistent and found wanting all too often
8. Davies not good enough
9. Pickford not good enough

That's a significant amount of the squad. We all expected this. It'll be a slow move until we rid of most of these players and get more quality in. It's slow progress I'm afraid
Agree with all of that

I don’t think it’s fair to criticise fans for expecting better than what we’ve just seen. That was atrocious, and there are no excuses for it in my book.
I think we need to understand the difference between hope and expectation. We need more time wether we like it or not. We were awful and I was pretty much expecting it. Our captain who's been playing well, missing plus 3 players who'd get into most squads in the world. Carlo's had one window to sort the mess he inherited out. We clearly need to move on a lot of dead wood before bringing in more of the quality players we'd like to see as starters and as back up. The gap between our ideal first 11 and the reserves is enourmous, but I think we all knew that.
Hopefully, we'll have James and Digne back next week and I'm sure the performance will improve accordingly.

Missing James, Richie, Digne, Coleman, and Holgate...and people are mad about having a bad performance?

I get hoping back-ups step up...but most teams aren't overcoming 5 starters missing...especially some of the most critical attackers.

What other team is easily overcoming this? You think Liverpool is winning without Salah, Mane, VVD, Alexander-Arnold, and Robinson? ManU without Rashford, Fernandes, Maguire, Shaw, and Wan-Bissaka? What about Arsenal without Lacazette, Aubameyang, Bellerin, Tierney, and Gabriel?

Those teams have more depth than us for sure...but I bet they struggle a ton with those guys all out at once.

I would've like a better performance for sure. And I'm disappointed we didn't take advantage of opportunities. But at the end of the day I'm not getting too upset about our back-up squad struggling. It's not a sign of anything deeply wrong with the team. Just says we need to upgrade the depth.

Any time we have a chance to do something positive we bottle it.

Why does 1 loss always spark a mini crisis?

The answer is these players are weak and don't care. This season was a brilliant chance and we are blowing it.

Just get it right for once everton ffs.

Ultimately, it still is. But yes we are dropping off quickly.

While I agree the issue is the players (and management today was crap), that comes down to us not having enough quality options.

We needed options and after our start to the season it was worth the financial risk.

I really just think Brands treats it like he's at PSV, where he could take those risks with the squad knowing they'd still finish in a European place at the least. He's done it for three seasons now and it's utterly daft.

1 point out of 9 season for me is derailed.

We haven't the mentality to go on a 5+ game winning streak to make up for it and injuries leave us with the same cowards of last season dragging us back down the table.

You cant lose to Newcastle and Southampton and have hopes of finishing top 4 for me.
Not worth trying to explain yourself to certain posters who have agendas.

Everyone can see we’ve been garbage and getting worse with every game.

Olsen by a mile.

And if Carlo stands by that stupid statement that Pickford plays next week I will start to doubt the man still has what it takes.

Poor do, but original selection bad, DCL left upfrony with hardly any support. Should not have played Siggy but have Gordon up there in a 4-4-2.

So really the defeat is at Carlo's door.

I agree. The first half was shocking. So slow and with no creative spark whatsoever. But at this point more will be lost with indecision than the wrong decision as the saying goes, if we keep chopping and changing things all the time.
People slag Iwobi and Bernard off, and Iwobi was indeed shocking last week, but you have to give players some trust and time to settle (especially when coming from the bench) to gain some confidence. Not just drop them again when they have a bad 45 minutes.
Bernard almost scored a blinder at the end today, and when he picks up more confidence and starts running at defenders again, I truly believe he is one of the few players in that team with any creativity and flair. That team sorely needs it!

And get shut of 2/3, you know who.

But that’s across the board. Not looked at it again but someone let Wilson go and probably didn’t give a shout. Gomes is finished since that tackle by Son, mentally if not physically

Oh absolutely. Someone has let him go that's fine (I haven't watched it back again, quite frankly I wont watch Everton for another week now).

But focusing on Gomes his lack of awareness and how slow he in both movement and reaction is a huge problem.
