Haha. Neilsy's good like that.

But I abide by a simple policy of credit and critique where it's due. For example, Baines and Distin are my two favourite players, but even I'll admit they were two of our worst today!

Not for me. Baines and the whole defence let him down then, true, but he didn't keep his cool. He went out into no man's land, and never managed to recover.

He went out because someone had to and got back in time. I think that it is harsh on Howard at best to blame him for the goal. If Hibbert was as **** as Baines was today he would have 8 threads about it by now!

It's not his job to chase defenders mate, he's the goalie! If the defenders didn't do it, then that's their fault, but Howard shouldn't have followed N'Zogbia. He panicked in the heat of the moment, for me.

That said, he more than made up for it. 10 times over. I kind of wish, on some level though, he hadn't. If Wigan had spanked us like they should have, maybe Moyes would have a little rethink about his abysmal selection policy.

Aye maybe although the players don't help themselves with Neville making comments like "we aren't many players from top 4" on the back of performances like that.

Neville's soundbites are always comedy gold, mate.

Well, they would be if the truth wasn't so tragic.

I understand he is very much a company man but he should just stfu sometimes.

In his defense, they probably just tell him to say these things, as he's the captain. I know he's got shocking blonde hair, but he's not dumb; he'll know full well the situation we're in.

I really do despair, MOM nominations, kept us from a cricket score? another two points droped today from a howler, you really need to look at yourself when Bolton reserve keeper makes you look like a wally. Poor descions, poor postioning, cant hold a ball - thats just today.

Im sorry, ive tried so hard - ireally do want to rate him, i actually thought he had a great game last week, but hes neither good enough or consistent enough for us.

Final word.

They had 10 shots on target today. We had 3.

And Howard conceded the same amount as their keeper.

You've got Damon-esque tunnel vision when it comes to T-How, lid.

I just think its amazingly obvious how average he is, i really cant get over when people say he is one of the best in the world never mind the PL.

Al Habsi had a terrific game, that stat is a bit deceiving in the sense that he held his balls while Howard parried leaving us vulnerable for the second shot, while Al Habsi also did very well in terms of crosses, the peno save is a bit obvious but its there. Howards not a bad shot stopper when he stays on his line, but his over all descion making, positioning especially on secondry chances and feilding are poor.

I get annoyed with his distribution more than anything. The amount of times a counter attack is on and he holds onto the ball and doesn't throw it out, or his limited range of kicking. His left foot's not very good either. Teams can pressure him into wild kicking which spreads panic throughout the team.

As a keeper, I think he's very capable though, not outstanding, but certainly one of the better keepers we could hope for.

He will be, and he'll be starting. He's the USMNT's #1 GK and will be for some time. I'm not worried because honestly, he tends to play even better for the USMNT than Everton - there are some good theories as to why (see earlier in the thread).

First game is June 4th, and ideally (and this is what should happen) if the US makes it to the final (against Mexico - as it should be), he'll be playing 6/4-6/25, but he will have some of those games off and either Hanneman/Yelldell/Guzan will replace him. He'll get a little bit of time off before June 4, and then additional time off following the cup. Back in action for Everton towards the end of July.

I think it's mental fatigue for him, which is where some of the mistakes come in. Nobody can play a full league season and then an international tournament year after year and still be on top of their game. I think he'd come back fresh if he had a summer with no football at all.

I don't think Howard's as good as the media think he is, I will say that.

But he's good enough for us. We've just been spoilt in the past few decades by having two of the finest keepers to ever grace the game; Nev and Nige.

Good keep, prone to errors. Therefore, recatergorised as average keeper.
