Transfer Rumour Sergio Romero

In short, yes.

Basically we want Argentina's keeper to replace England's because he's better.

Romero doesn't play for Argentina anymore tbf, hasn't since early 2019 I don't think.

He isn't better, either. He might be about the same.

Carlo says we're not in for a GK. Maybe that's a lie, I think we should be and Romero would definitely be good competition for Pickford. We'll have to see how it goes.

As far as I see it, the world cup was the turning point. He's been erratic ever since. It was obvious right away when he came back. Made a gaffe in the first game against Wolves by going wrong way from a free kick.

He's not the first young lad to let plaudits or adulation go to his head and he won't be the last. But it's about 27 months ago and he needs to grow up now.

The fact he's still behaving in the same manner and making the same mistakes, makes me think he is never going to learn.

I'd like to know what they're actually working on in coaching with him. I'm not blaming the GK coach, but surely they have to be working on these mistakes.

He appears to need a sports psychologist as much as anything else.

The issue isn't even his concentration, for me. It's the fact that when he makes a mistake (okay, they happen) - whether it results in a goal or not at the time you know he's then going to lose his head for the next 15 minutes. After that he settles down, usually after making a decentish save.

i.e. v West Brom he was put in bother by Mina and flapped at his clearance. First 10 mins he looked shaken and then - even though I don't blame him for the goal - he didn't exactly cover himself in glory. It's only when he made the save from Diangana from a tight angle that he then settled himself.

If Pickford plays against Palace his morale will be rock bottom if he has heard the rumour about Romero. Anyway, although Romero is not good enough to displace the crap De Gea he is probably still better than Pickford.

United couldn't drop De Gea though - he is on 400k a week & if they dropped him, his value and morale sink like a stone. They gambled on him playing through his dip & he has now been very average for 18 months+, Pickford has deteriorated from average to disgraceful & is as bad as it gets at this level of football.

Romero a significant upgrade with lots of Experience - go for it

Someone has to drop Pickford, Ancelotti or Southgate, hopefully it's Carlo for our sake.

He needs some sort of reality check / kick up the backside, it might be beneficial to him in the long-run.

There are consequences in Sunday League football when you cock up this often, this is the Premier League.

He will continue to make mistakes and lose concentration if there are no consequences, and we'll end up paying.

We could get away with it the other night, but not when playing any side of half-decent quality.

We are not dropping Pickford unless there is another GK coming in.

This is the thing, he isn't.

He's decent, but he's been a back-up for the last three or four years now. He's alright. He's made some pretty big flaps in his time too - most goalkeepers have.

I like Romero but this idea that he's far better than Pickford needs to be binned because he isn't.

He will be dropped if he continues to make mistakes. For the first time I noticed his teammates look at each other in disbelief at his mistakes when returning to center circle. Management would have noticed as well. He cant allow the pickford not to be trusted by his teammates. A chance for the backups to prove themselves.

But he is. Pickford is at close to one big mistake per match for last year. I think there isnt many keepers at top level who are stooping to that level. None that I can think of apart from Keipa

Lossl hasn't played a competitive minute for us and I can't see Virginia getting a run out in a league game any time soon.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Romero perform as poorly as Pickford. He may well not be as good in terms of ability, but we have a huge problem with Pickford that is getting worse, not better.

I think you're underestimating the scale of the problem we have. Players were fuming at him on the pitch and Keane was deciding to spray 40 yard cross field passes rather than play it simple back to the goalkeeper.

A nervy keeper causes a nervy team and nervy teams don't usually play well.

No offence Toff, but I really think you are underestimating how bad Pickford is; Romero is a MASSIVE upgrade on Pickford

His stats suggest he would comfortably be a top half keeper, he has a consistently high save % across his career; is not error prone and is solid with the ball at his feet. There is a 15 goal plus swing between the two & that is being conservative.
