When you say "son is very well known" and "is a face" im not really sure what you mean?

Almost all Asian fans support one of the winning teams. They will know of Son because hes Asian just the same as when we had Li Tie for example (remember him?) and other Asians who pop up in Spain or England.

Aside from the top sides and the top players in those sides they then support national teams.

After all those fans you then have those who like teams such as Spurs or Everton because of a certain player.

Usually these are either very good looking players, hard men or those who stick out for some reason.

Id say Harry Kane or Dele Alli are more recognisable to Asian fans than Son because they play(ed) for England.

No mate, I didn't remember Li Tie but a fair enough post (although Son is the mega big Asian player currently playing.)

There's a certain irony in our angsty Spurs supporting chum intimating the good posters of GOT are immature children.

Surely the adult thing is to ignore and move on, not get into snippy little battles?

I agree 100% and when a chat is going along well enough Mr Middle Finger Cronullasharks always butts in with insults and digs and then the little small minded group who are trying to get a ban often join in.
As its a part of the forum to discuss other teams, there is just no need to be so juvenile.

It’s a silly, ignorant comment from the previous poster. Being Asian doesn’t automatically mean being big there. Minamino at Liverpool is not (yet) a big name in Japan. Nakata was the last huge Japanese player there, Beckham levels of fame. As the greatest Asian player to date, Son is at that level in South Korea. The Chinese fellas from here were a blip on the radar in Asia.

Can I mention that I really despise Southampton? You have no idea what you are going to get week in and week out. They've just been thumped, pretty heavily. They'll probably beat us by 3 when we play then lose the next week to West Brom. Such a pain in the arse club.

Did you mean my comment? Or the chap youve responded to?

Nakata was massive in Japan as was Shinji Ono (nowhere near as much as Nakata though)...Nakata was basically Beckham in Europe × 100 in Japan back in the day (beckham also massive there of course). Sports shops had his shirt everywhere + him on screens.

Li Tie was big in China, he had about 100 caps for them and hes now their manager. He had the same adulation in China as Son has in South Korea. Difference was that China wasnt a massive broadcaster of Football until the current leader came into power...

Funny thing...Li Tie is not even close to how his name is pronounced in Mandarin...i learnt that in China when i was trying to explain i knew of him in the premier league. When they clicked they all grinned and said that hes not attractive :(

When you say "big in asia" there isnt any "big in asia" for asian players.

No one outside of S Korea cares about Son...no one outside Japan cared about Nakata and no one outside China cares about there players...in Asia.

Very patriotic are Asians...

Anyway to bring this thread back on topic somewhat I see that their opponents in the league cup Leyton Orient have announced that a number of their squad have tested positive for Covid. Wonder what that means for the game tomorrow as surely with spurs packed schedule there isn’t an opportunity to reschedule?
