That's a pretty accurate portrayal of John Barnes - many years ago I used to deliver pizza and he ordered every week - never left a top. New Years Eve, pissing down with rain, icey streets making it difficult to park on hills - got his delivery to him bang on time and he stood in the doorway with his hands out waiting as I scrabbled in my pocket for his 16p change.

That’s really surprising to be honest. My little brother went to school with his lad, and (as much as it pains me to say nice things about an ex RS player), he always seemed like a really good bloke. Always really chatty with everyone, had loads of time for lads who’d hang round when he came to collect Jordan, wanting autographs etc, did loads for the school (fundraising etc).
