But he isn't wrong.

Look at our finishing positions in the last 7 years.

In fact look at our finishing positions for the past 20 years.

We are a midtable team. Despite ancelotti, despite spending hundreds of millions , despite being one of the giants of the English game, we are a mid table team.

We need to be competitive with the team's above us before we start to have a little ambition. Jesus we have been eclipsed by Burnley and wolves in the past 2 seasons. Leiscter have eclipsed us the past 4 seasons (league title not included).

Before we all start acting like West ham fans , maybe we don't finish in the bottom half for a start and see where we go from there.
He isn’t wrong?

So he’s right in saying that it’d be “unbelievable” for us to finish 8th?

Last season was the exception not the norm it was our lowest finish in 16 years.

Burnley have finished above Everton twice in those 30 years you mention. Why include the last 7 years and not the last ten when we finished above the mighty Liverpool twice in succession.

This league is so poor that any well drilled team which is what Wolves are can challenge the top 6 there is nothing to fear from any team that finished above is they all have 11 players and every game starts 0-0.

If we keep spending money we will get it right eventually who is to say it won't happen next year?

Listened to it. I was embarrassed for them. The guy couldn’t pronounce realistically but kept saying it far too much anyway. He had no salient points and clearly hadn’t watched us last season. Even Bent who was nominally defending us didn’t really have much of a clue - although he definitely doesn’t like Iwobi.

He may have had a genesis of a point, it’s going to be difficult to get top 6, but he’s just giving it the poor mans Adrian Durham. Reminded me why I stopped listening to this rubbish. But like everyone else I was hoping for the announcement.

We’ve beaten a few of them in the not so distant past. Now we seem to be solving the midfield out. We have one of the best managers in world football. I see no reason to be satisfied with 8th and a cup run. If that was the aim, Allan, Rodriguez or Carlo for that matter would not have come here. The ambition is, rightly so, breaking in to the top 6/4. Having had a few bad seasons on the bounce doesnt rewrite out history.

edit:
assuming we actually bring these players in. If we dont reinforce, thats a very different proposition
By all means the club should have the ambition to win the league every single season , otherwise what is the point in the league?

But we laugh at fans talking up ambition far beyond their footing and then do it ourselves. Right now , Burnley are better than us and we have massively spent more than them in the process. How many teams above us last season were a league below us not too long ago? City excluded given they have spent a fortune.

All I'm saying is that maybe we go into the season without expectation for once. We have one of the best managers in the game in charge and we are signing players to match his quality. Rodriguez alone is amazing for me, a player that is out of our league yet about to put on the shirt.

Instead of talking about top 6/top 4 type ambition , we need to start winning games and see where we go from there. All the players and managers money can't buy mean nothing if we finish 12th, it proves your man on the video right yet again.

Or better context , he was talking about the 12th best team last season, 8th 2 seasons before that. 11th 2 seasons before that. Does that sound like a team that should be top 6 overnight? We have to have ambition and these signings show that ambition. Means nothing until the seasons over though.

I'd love to have a fly on the wall opinion on us from other teams. We all do the 4th biggest club in England line over and over but over the past 20 years, how does the rest of the football world view us?

I'm sure many of us would get a reality check!
