I thought he had been in Portugal on holiday and all his recent social media updates had been from there?

Someone can correct me if I'm incorrect. I'm not on instagram or twitter anymore

Ah, hadn't heard that. In any case there's no quarantine issue between Portugal and Spain so he can just go home to Spain and travel to UK from there ;).

Oh, wait...!

His Instagram post on Sunday or whenever was from Portugal. He may well have had to go back to Madrid to finalise things. Suspect it could be a while yet before anything is announced.

The senior players in our squad are utter bilge, we need a short term route into trying to get into Europe, we have some young and promising midfielders, plus if we are successful in getting into Europe, we then get those promising midfielders in the early 20's and develop a style. Seville did ok with some oldies thrown in.

Hopefully his move over to the UK has been planned for a while and that's the reason he's in Portugal, On entry to the UK he will have to declare where he's been for the previous 14 days, if he's been in a country not in the "sky corridor" in that time he will have to self isolate, not sure if that would be 14 days from arrival of 14 days from leaving the quarantined country though.

The rules for 'elite sportspeople' are a bit more accommodating. From the gov.uk site:

You’ll need to provide written evidence from a United Kingdom or English national governing body for your sport of your status as an international elite sportsperson or essential support staff attending a specified event.

You will not need to self-isolate for up to 14 days as long as you proceed directly to the footprint of the listed elite sports event you are participating in, and remain either self-isolated or within the event location (or locations if the event has multiple venues) until your departure from the UK. You must isolate within the event footprint with elite sportspersons training for or competing in that event, and also ancillary sportspersons who are involved in that event. Travel between multiple venue locations for the sports event is permitted. The sports event may include provision of hotel or other suitable accommodation within its location(s).

You remain obligated to self-isolate if you stay somewhere other than the event footprint (e.g. if you own a residence in England).

The 14-day period for which you are subject to these additional conditions begins from when you were last in a non-exempt country or territory.

So seems he could come over and join up with the team 'bubble' until his 14 day quarantine has passed. He'd be tested to within an inch of his life anyway once here, like they all are.
