This transfer is growing on me. Very good player and a marquee signing for sure. Getting both him and Allan in would show other clubs and players we mean business. Should hopefully translate to more belief on the pitch and a higher level of players looking at Everton and thinking we might do something similar to ManCity the upcoming years. We already have one of the best managers in the world, all we need to climb in the league are the right reinforcements.

Status-wise this is a bit like when City signed Robinho and everyone lost their minds because City hadn’t done anything for years

Like Ancelotti, the guy is way above our current stature and it shows fantastic ability to sell a project if it comes out

Say what you like about Moshiri, Brands etc.but in getting in Ancelotti they have transformed us more than unearthing a few young gems ever would

We hear the same speech every transfer window. "We are showing our intent."
With this current team, I'd be happy with a league cup win and a top 10 finish. We are not good enough to break into the top 6.

I disagree. We heard that speech when we went mental and signed Sigurdsson, Rooney, Klassen, Sandro, Vlasic and loads more (and we all know how that went!) but since then I don’t think anyone has really got excited with our transfer windows aside from the solitary signing of Richarlison mostly because of how expensive he was and how the media hated it.

if we were to sign James, Allan, Arias and one more CM then we have genuinely strengthened all of our weakest areas and will be a far far better team. Would obviously love a better GK and a 20+ season striker but it would be a massive step in the right direction...

We have to actually sign some players yet so I wont
