A rematch will happen, probably when the crowds are back , and Whyte will surely win. Povetkin is still 40+ and looks to have no punch resistance left, as evidenced in the round before the KO. The damage is done though, Whyte hasn't got a leg to stand on calling out AJ and Fury for a title shot moving forwards.

Don't feel sorry for him one bit, he had a dodgy drug test result last year and tried to cover it up with Hearn, only an American journalist blew them up. And he knocked back the Joshua rematch at Wembley by demanding delusional money. And turned down an eliminator with Pulev. Then swerved another eliminator against Ortiz. It is an absolute myth, peddled by his team and by Sky, that he's been avoided and unfairly denied a title shot. Tonight he reaped what he sowed and got what was coming to him, he's been very fortunate in his last few fights.

Lot of talk about being too patient and not finished him off but that us hindsight, great finish by povetkin but there is always an element of luck when someone slips or rolls so perfectly onto your shot. No shame in losing to a risk and I actually thought whyte looked good with nice shot selection an timing. A few years ago people would be assuming he would out of his depth against a skilled guy like povetkin so he can come again and dine at the top table in the division for sure

Pretty one sided post.

He was taken out by a single killer blow after looking comfortable for several rounds and putting Povetkin down multiple times, that can happen in heavyweight boxing. In comparison Joshua was embarrassed by a fat dwarf for an entire fight not so long ago. The idea that this destroys any claim to future fights for Whyte is nonsense.

Whyte would have had to go to Eastern Europe and have a 25% split of the purse to fight Pulev. Would Joshua have accepted those terms ?

Whyte was cleared over the drugs test and rightly so, he was enrolled in multiple testing programmes for weeks before the fight with Rivas and the one adverse test had such low levels of metabolite it was impossible for it to have been intentional doping.

Not sure how you can say he’s been unfairly denied a title shot. Those claims by Whyte/Hearn are referencing the WBC specifically, and it’s true. Would have had to wait as number 1 in their rankings for 1000 days before getting the title shot. There’s nothing wrong with turning down fights which aren’t right for you in a sport where you’re getting brain damage every time you step in the ring. Otherwise Joshua could have fought Wilder three years ago if he’d just accepted crap terms like 25% of the purse and going to America.

You're post is the one-sided, you're ignoring actual facts.

He was offered millions for the chance to avenge his only career loss, against a supposed hated rival, for the heavyweight championship yet knocked it back because he wanted a bigger slice. What?! Joshua already sparked him out once and had gone onto bigger things, Whyte was lucky AJ even offered him anything.

He doesnt have to take eliminator fights away from home if he doesnt want too yes, but if you do stop whinging saying you're being unfairly denied. Every fighter has to fight some sort of eliminator in their career before getting a shot. He turned down the eliminator with Pulev, which had he won, he'd have gotten his crack within 120 days. Not all fights will pay what you want them too. And would Joshua have accepted it? No but Joshua is a worldwide international draw. Whyte is a guy who's built his career on the back of him.

His test came back dodgy and he and Hearn intentionally didn't inform the WBC, the ones sanctioning the fight. Forget the opponent, if anyone's entitled to know if something potentially serious has happened in the build up it's the governing body. Instead the British board, that trustworthy old gang of farts, allowed him to have a "secret" hearing. Absolutely disgusting. Imagine the RS or some other team was accused of cheating yet were allowed to keep all the allegations under wraps and have their day in court where they answered against the evidence completely hushed up, they'd be uproar.

He was no.1 with the WBC in their rankings for 1000 days, not the mandatory. There is a massive difference. He was waiting for the final eliminator to be called against the next highest guy, but because Wilder has been tied up with Fury for the best part of 2 years the WBC didn't see the need call it.

He has not been hard done by in the slightest. He's had more advantages than any top 10 heavyweight in the past few years. Every fight at home. Every fight for big money. The British board allowing him to keep serious drug test issues quiet. Lucky decisions against Chisora and Parker. Saying disgraceful things in press conferences like how he was going to come after Chisora in public when Del was with his new baby, yet zero consequences. Last night he got what's been coming.

He turned Joshua down for “millions” yes, not sure how you can say I am ignoring facts. I’m perfectly aware. Why would he accept a fight he’s probably going to lose for a comparatively small amount of money ? The entire boxing game is about hype and protecting your worth as much as world titles.

The point about Whyte being unfairly denied a title shot by the WBC is what I’m talking about, which he was. They ordered Wilder Brezeale when Whyte was above him in the rankings and had been for ages. The justification for this was a fight Brezeale won in 2017 against Eric Molina of all people, total tosh and clearly a bid to stop Whyte getting in the ring with Wilder.

As for the testing thing, I’m confused why you’re making such a big deal out of it. You’d have a point if he had actually been doping and tried to cover it up like Miller. That’s not what happened and you know it, it was a tainted supplement which is why it showed up in tiny amounts in a single test and not one of the other tests he’d been doing (out of choice) for months.

Hearn is no mug. If he had any indication that Whyte was going to be uncovered as a drug cheat there’s not a chance he’d have arranged the hearing in secret. This was done to protect the fight and the investment, not to cover up wrongdoing.

Seems to me you’re extremely biased and just dislike the guy.

It was covered up, at least attempted to be. The only reason we even know about it is because Thomas Hauser has a source at UKAD and wrote a story about it. The British board never revealed it (which they should have, at least to the WBC who are sanctioning the bloody thing). Whyte didn't, Hearn didn't, UKAD's top brass wouldn't. The opponent wasn't even even informed which is morally disgusting. It's not the point that it ended up coming back as a small thing, the fact that there was an issue in the first place that was deemed serious enough to merit an investigation and a hearing means total transparency should have been demanded.

I don't hate Whyte, I think think he'd have smashed Wilder and I definitely think he'll do Povetkin in the rematch. I just hate the farcical narrative that's been created to hype him up, that he's some victim of boxing politics. He's made millions of pounds and had a lot of things his own way for years and the reason he hasn't had a title shot is largely down to his own career decisions.

Don’t understand why you think it’s morally disgusting when Whyte knew he was innocent.

If they’d told Rivas then the fight would have been off and both fighters would have lost a payday for no reason, because no cheating had taken place.

It would have come out in the press within days regardless of who did or didn’t know, surely you don’t think Hearn or Whyte expected it to not be leaked. It was done to preserve the fight night, nothing more.

That's the fellas' right, if you're about to go into a dangerous fight wouldn't you want to know about if a few days before your opponent has had some serious issues with his drug-testing? It's a sport where people can easily die.

I’m fairly sure Rivas would rather fight a guy who’d done nothing wrong than have the fight cancelled because of a trace substance in a single test.

But it doesn’t matter. It’s not morally wrong because Whyte didn’t cheat. You can’t feign moral outrage when there’s no wrongdoing, it makes no sense.

How would he have known he did nothing wrong? The final results didn't come out for months afterward. Forget Rivas, the WBC had more right to know than anyone, it was them sanctioning the fight. A fighter they were allowing to fight for one of their ranking spots tried to shut them out of knowing the full facts.

I have never said Whyte cheated, I'm saying he and his team deliberately misled the governing body, the fans and probably the broadcaster too over something very serious and they got caught red-handed by a cracking investigative journalist. Hearn is the worst snake of all.
