Sad day, was lucky enough to have seen the late great Ray Wilson play and he’ll always be the best LB I have seen play, not just for Everton but for England! Leighton Baines without doubt is next on the list, best left back at Everton for nearly fifty years! Was a joy to watch him and Pienaar at their peak for a few years!

Will go down as a great player and a legend of a club man. Could have joined any top team in his prime. Stuck with us. Top top man.

Could have went to Bayern or Manu and won loads.
But he like the rest of us live in the hope of better days here.

Imagine him in our great side of the eighties , he'd have legendary status.

Really sad to hear he is retiring but equally good to be able to say he went out still playing at a very high standard. Seeing Howard and Cahill decline for example really was painful.

Baines lost a bit of pace, naturally, but was always a class act when called upon both on the pitch and off of it. Thanks for the ace memories Leighton.

He's retiring yeah.

I never thought he'd go elsewhere. It was stay or retire in his mind. I doubt he even contemplated a move.
