Tottenham were on the verge of something special.....then they hired Mourinho.
Spurs are absolutely part of the elite. Now I do think they are vulnerable to be dropped from that group rapidly if they fall off which makes next season critical for them, but today they're in it.I don’t think that I’ve ever once seen anyone ever say that Spurs are
“Part of the elite” and I myself have never once said that Spurs are but I have regularly said that Spurs are a long way behind the top clubs and are now going to fall even further behind.
I have seen Everton fans on here say that Spurs are a bigger club than Everton but that’s something I’ve tried not to get involved in discussing.
Why do you like the stadium thread so much my mate?

.I don't really know what you're trying to say but I'll explain my point further. Spurs are an elite side currently, they were in this season's CL, they made last season's final, they've been in the top 4 for quite a few seasons running before this one and the treatment they get from the media generally (and sometimes the referees) is closer to a Chelsea than a Wolves or whoever. But they are the team among the "Big 6" that has the least amount of money and exposure and because of that they can't afford to do what United for example have done and have an extended run outside the top 4-6 as they will stop receiving the favorable coverage and exposure that hugely benefits the elite clubs much quicker than the other ones would.I think that you're doing a kind of tabloid hatchet job. Make a non story a story and then when the opportunity arises, kick them in the balls, hard.
I know all about Spurs in the 60s, still doesn't make them an elite team. They have always been a good cup team. City won the title the fa cup and a European cup in the space of a couple of years, didn't make us one of the elite either. It's not necessarily Spurs fans who big them up either. It's the media.Depends how far you want to go back. Or are you one of the football started in 1992 brigade? Or even worse, football started when CFC & MCFC were bought by billionaires?

For the record I think the above is true about City too but the combination of them winning as many titles as they have and the staggering amount of money means it is almost impossible for them to actually drop off.
I get what you're saying, but I think that is a very narrow definition. Essentially you're saying an elite club is one that will never drop off and realistically there are what like 5 of those? United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, Juventus and ? So to me that's a bit too narrow as you can't even make a league out of those and the current elite clubs are trying very hard to find a way to make their own league. So I'd expand the definition personally.I think your getting an "Elite Club" and an "Elite team" confused so two examples.
1) An elite club. A good and topical example, Man Utd. An elite club who by THEIR standards, have been having a little bit of a hard time over (roughly) the last 5 years but that didn't ever stop them being classed as an elite club.
2) An elite team. You mention Spurs but it could be any number of clubs but for this instance, let's as you mention them, use Spurs and let's make them even more "elite" and make make out that they actually won something lol.
An elite team. Have a good few seasons punching above their weight, won the league (like Leicester did) and for good measure won a European trophy.
The very good team gets older but because the club isn't one of the elite clubs, there good players are bought from them by an elite club or the players get old.
The club then cannot afford to buy the same quality of player who's got old, so the term "elite team" has gone but the term "Elite Club" hasn't gone because they wasn't an elite club in the first place.
Another better example. Go back to the Brian Clough's early 80's Forest.
An elite very good team, won two European Cups two? League titles and a few League Cups.
During this time nobody ever thought they were an elite club and after about15-20 years, they had returned back into a lower division to hardly ever be seen again.

I'm not even sure it is more than the RS and United tbh. I think if you're excluding Chelsea and Spurs than Arsenal are out too.But it stills shows the difference between an elite team and an elite club and IMO, there is really only 3 elite clubs in England with others coming and going (the 3 all play in red.)
Hey Bertie your mob are probably even more bitter than before the oil barrels arrived, your 35 year drought was not fuelled with as much paranoia , personally i have always hated city even when they were in division 3 along with a lot of United fansWith all due respect your last sentence is absolute testicles. Speaking as someone who has gone through the transformation of my club, from no hopers to perennial title challengers. I still hate the rags as much now as I did back then. Only difference is, along with many other City fans, we've come to realise just how scummy Liverpool are too.
