How do I make sure my son supports Everton?

I had the same dilemma when my boy was due, he's now six and wont hear anything about any team other than Everton, problem is I did such a good job that he now thinks its wrong to support England? (Although maybe he's got the right idea). My other half and her family are all united fans and I politely informed them that any shirts, scarves etc. would make useful fuel for the fire if they decided to bring them anywhere near my son, they chuckled and assumed I was kidding, but I just maintained the crazy stare and they got the point.

Oh , an' I also took a couple of her Nephews an' all , just cause she Fukd with Me ....

Hahaha..

Beautiful.

Love it.

My kids are all bought EFC stuff, I brainwashed my daughter with RED versus Blue games....which colour Red or Blue? Red, oh dear, no toy/bed time story etc.

Plus your kid will ask you what team you want to win as you're watching so it's easier that it seems when they're babies.

You could always show the 95 cup semi on a loop...

Good Luck,

Remember, Kyle Naughton etc.....

Plus with Harry in charge they're only one bad season away from Administration and a 10 point deduction

Keep him away from "best of 2010/11 season highlights" DVD.

That will enhance your chances by 11%. Fact.

Congrats BTW, FTW!

It´s called brain washing lad. Start right away, get the mrs to listen to Z-cars and It´s a grand old team twice a day . Always try to wear you Everton shirt around him\her do the room Everton. Also theres a great baby book called "My team Everton ".To be read at least twice a daily . Take him to the match as soon as you can and teach him Red is wrong.

Congrats mate. Parenthood is the best thing that ever happned to me and my two lads are blue through and through.

I'm hoping for some inspiration here as I'm really up against it with this one. Our first is due in June and I can't handle the idea that he won't support Everton. My wife, her mum, her dad, her brother and her uncle all support spurs. The one saving grace is that except for my wife they have all recently moved to Devon so hopefully can't provide too much influence. On the other side of the coin we live in Surrey and are obviously far closer to her club than mine :(

She kept smirking at me today and when I finally got her to confess why she showed me a bloody spurs baby grow she'd bought!rcard When I protested that it wasn't fair to force the poor lad to wear that rubbish she reminded me that I'll be at work whilst she's home all day and she can therefore control what he wears.

So come and folks what can I do to stop him becoming a yid? I'll bet some of you have faced this one before?

I wouldn't worry about it mate.

If the rumours are true he's not your kid anyway!

My mum and dad always said to me "You can support who ever you like but if you don't support Everton you're not getting fed"

I honestly believe the best way is just to take him to a game when he is old enough. Make a big deal out of it, take him for food, take him the shop and buy him anything he wants with an EFC badge on, then to the ground and to a game. I think thats what seals the deal for most kids.

You could also teach him Everton songs, and watch games on tv with him, etc. Teach him what the badge is and the shirt is - relate it to being happy and that its good (as much as we're not!)

Currently in the process of indoctrinating my niece and she now goes mad whenever she sees an Everton badge, shouts "EVERTON EVERTON" and kisses the badge. The other day her nana (not my mum) tried to take her in the RS shop, she was havin none of it and burst into tears and point blank refused to go in - made a real show in Liverpool One  Everton shop, she runs in and grabs everythin off the shelves. She's only 2 so I'm pretty sure it's working (y)

i am 4th generation blue, and i had no choice in the matter...I was always going to be a blue. Now, 18 months ago I moved to america...2 wks ago my Son was born. My battle is 1) to make sure he likes football over the crappy yankie sports and 2) to make sure he turns out to be the 5th generation blue. My tactics are going to be to drum everton into his head as soon as he is able to understand. I will sit with him and watch dvd's, internet videos, watch the games live with him, get him excited, show him my memorabilia, tell him stories, talk to him about my hero's...and most importantly, that Blue's do not chose, but are chosen.

At the end of the day he is your dad and he will ultimately follow your lead...get him to games as soon as he is old enough...you don't want his first game to be a london team otherwise you might have a harder battle

Take him to matches when he's old enough, he'll enjoy going to Everton matches with his dad (father son bonding and all that) rather than going to Spurs matches with his mum - I can bet.

Then he'll hopefully see it as a 'father son' thing and have to follow his Dad. :)

I force my 2 year old to watch Everton matches. I only watch the other clubs when he's away or asleep. So far, he doesn't know of any other club other than those Everton plays and since I'm usually cursing at them, he gets the drift.

Reading this is giving me flashbacks to all the brainwashing me dad did on me. Never realised he could be so crafty.

I was never supporting anyone else though, he needn't have bothered. Can't remember a time when I thought the RS were anything but bad, bad meffs.

I wasn't born in the city of liverpool, but I was drawn to Everton. The lad will choose his own path.

But, get him to Goodison as soon as he understands.

I remember my first time, as I'm sure most of you do. ,

When Z cars starting playing and everyone was upstanding, even writing this I can still remember the hairs on the back of my neck, the swelling of pride. To see everyone in unison, as Evertonians pay that homage is great.

Let him feel that. No other club can beat that.

And hopefully by that time we'd have won a few more trophies which always help.
