Is there a reason threads get locked after a certain amount of time ?

And can it be changed ?

Its kind of annoying having to message a mod every time you want to bump a thread, I’d understand if they were years old but it seems they got locked after just a few months of inactivity.

I read plenty of other forums and this is the only place that seems to lock inactive threads. Does it help performance/speed etc or is it just to stop random bumps of ancient threads ?

If a thread doesn't have a reply in 90 days, it's automatically closed.

Few reasons really. The logic is it's no longer active, often 'bumps' can be misleading/make the forum appear dated are often just "Ha! Told you..."

Not changing at the moment, only yesterday I was looking at a notification box which needed to be ticked to acknowledge a dated thread before posting but decided against it.

Ultimately - New threads > old threads. Nobody wants dated/stale content on a football forum.

There's a joke there about match previews. Or much of my posting.
