Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Chelsea signed 11 first team players in their first summer transfer window, the next summer they signed 8. One of the main problems now is that even an average player costs £20m+. Chelsea signed Crespo for £16m, Robben for £12m, Cech for £7m, Drogba and Essien for £24m etc. Transfer fees have exploded and Chelsea were in a better position than we were at the times of takeovers, both in terms of position and with FFP regulations. I don't think you can compare.

City were similar in that regard.

There's no doubt we have spent poorly though.
Spot on mate

And to match Chelsea, we would have had to be buying players for between 50 and 100mil
Our debt over the last 4/5 years is something like 225mil. Even if we had spent the money a lot better, it’s very unlikely we would be competing seriously at the top.

It’s a different world now, to when Chelsea or even city spent their money. Fulham came up spent a 100mil and went down. That wouldn’t have happened 15yrs ago.

We gave Koeman £150 million to spend in one transfer window

We gave Silva £200 million over 2 windows

Alladyce £50 million in 1 january window

Them idiots running our club better give one of the worlds best managers the funds to have us push on next year.

None of this 2-3 signings rubbish the squad isnt anywhere near good enough.

We’ve got one of the highest wage turnovers in the league because of that spending, it’s not feasible to keep spending 2-300m at that rate. It’s all well and good saying let’s go out and get this that and the other now FFP has been relaxed for a year, but then we’ve got to offset that expenditure and increased wages for when it’s back in effect

Thats why you SELL

Schneiderlin
Davies
Kenny
Iwobi
Keane
Siggurdsson
Hornby
Pennington
Dowell
Bolasie

Players we could easily peddle either for sale or loans with options to buy.

We did a decent job of peddling crap last summer so we should do it again.

Im sick of the club throwing away opportunities like this with a top manager because "oh well we are paying for bad windows" well stop hiring duds to spend the money / move the crap on at a loss and get them off the books.

Asking for £20 million for tosh like Tosun is the reason we struggle at times to sell - who in their right mind would pay that for the galoot?

Cannot disagree with any of those bar maybe Kenny.

2 of those already have one foot out the door (Hornby and Schneiderlin), two we may as well release as they continue to fail on loan (Pennington and Dowell), Bolasie farts about too much when we ship him out, Kenny will depend on what Ancelotti wants to do with him.

Iwobi and Davies won’t be going anywhere, no matter how much people cry over it which leaves Keane and Sigurdsson. Keane, I think we can just about manage to make a £10-15m loss on but we’d make a huge loss on Sigurdsson, possibly too huge for FFP

Thats the problem - why wont they be going anywhere? Because its jobs for the boys at this club and we keep crap players about 2 seasons past their sell by date before realising they actually need booting.

Even if we got £15 million for Keane we would technically make a small profit FFP wise with him 3 years into his deal - there is business to be done we just have have the ambishun to get the clowns out the door.

Liverpool could sell sand to the arabs - we struggle massively with doing it.

Because, and this may shock you, Ancelotti knows better and might actually like them

But FFP mate it doesn't work like that you have to have a balanced approach , we peed the Lukaku money up the wall with Koeman and Walsh.I still expect we will spend between 50-100m this summer and hopefully bring alot of it back in wages and sales.

We could do the following imo:

Kenny - £7-8 million
Davies: £5-8 million
Hornby: £1.8 million
Dowell: £2 million?
Keane: £15 million

Thats FFP profit on 5 players that wouldnt even effect the first team.

There is money to be made especially selling home grown talent but this club has a weird obsession with stockpiling young players for nothing - look how long Pennington/Dowell have been around for.

You telling me we couldnt have sold either for what we would get for Hornby who isnt as established as them?

Juve and Dortmund literally sign players on free transfers to sell for FFP profit - we could do that with Bernard and fetch £12-15 million but we wouldn't have the acumen to do it.

....common denominator is Steve Walsh.
