ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Thats simply not backed up by the findings I'm afraid. There's a theory it's down to Socio-economic status, but that doesn't explain it all. Theres certainly no evidence to say being BAME isn't a risk factor, in fact quite the opposite. So if the PL or any club want to show their support for racism, preventing contact football restarting for BAME players would be a good start.

It is no theory. You only have to look at life expectancy. People in the most affluent areas live on average over 20 years longer than those who live in the most deprived. Even worse there is a 30-year gap between when people start getting serious health issues.

Research has shown that the two main reasons for the BAME population having a worse outcome are deprivation and having jobs that involve high levels of contact with the general population. Look at the number of BAME people who work in the NHS for instance with just under half of all NHS workers in London being BAME.

Footballers live an incredibly privileged life so certainly aren't affected by deprivation. They are also going to have far less contact with large numbers of people than a NHS worker or a key worker working in a supermarket. Then you have the absurd level of testing that professional footballers are having.

I think it would be much better to sympathise with members of the BAME population working for the NHS, working on public transport or in supermarkets. Rather than pampered footballers.

Poverty is one factor but it's not the only factor. To what extent do you consider the upbringing of said BAME footballers? In general your upbringing 0-18 makes a massive difference, before any of them were footballers.

It's also not about sympathy. Its bait understanding racism affects all members of the BAME community and not picking and choosing who one supports. If people want to go giving the knees, you can tackle the racism within your own industry.
