Usmanov

I tried to explain that. Apparently because we've spent big over the last few years he's wealthier than the Glazers or Abramovich.

I can understand why he is mistaken. The Usmanov link has been hyped to the max and treated as factual in some quarters.

Usmanov is wealthier than Abramaovich, which may well have made him the second wealthiest owner in the league, if he actually owned us.

But he doesn’t own us, and the fantasy that he was going to be our de facto owner to get around FFP has been quashed. Or at least, the idea that he will match anything approaching Abramovich’s investment has been quashed.

It hasn’t really though. We’ll see who’s our owner when the ground get confirmed. Alot of connected people seem to believe he’s our owner. Some papers have actually reported him as our owner and all our recent managers have met him prior to being appointed.

You seem to be assuming that despite spending big, by not making signings of the same calibre Abramovich does at Chelsea it means we’re not being funded to the extent they are now however there’s a few things to consider here. First Chelsea actually make a lot more money than we do now due to the head start they have on us at the moment and we’re not quite at the level to attract those players, regardless of how much money we have. What we do have is a plan that seems to involve addressing the ground situation first, something Abramovich is failing with himself and he hasn’t managed to produce a new stadium for Chelsea despite numerous failed attempts. The latest of which has been shelved due to the cost.

If we get this stadium in the middle of this pandemic and with a no deal brexit looming, then our owners, whoever that may be, have delivered massively for this club and I’ve got no doubt the trophies will eventually follow.

Again, there’s a need to jump through hoops of excuses to maintain the fantasy that he’s bankrolling us to anything approaching the level Abramovich has invested in Chelsea, whose failed ground move would have seen him add another billion to the billions he’s already invested in Chelsea.

There’s no comparison.

There’s certainly a comparison.

Abramovich has invested billions, he’s actually invested £1.1 billion in Chelsea since he arrived.

Our owners are racing towards that at a ferocious speed right now.

The ground will probably surpass it in one swoop.

I don’t see Moshiri or anyone else paying for our new ground. They’ll obtain a commercial loan with interest that will be paid by the club. It wasn’t long ago that they were asking the council for a loan.

As for how much they have already spent, I don’t think it is as much as is made out unless you deliberately forget about massive TV deals and selling our best players.

For me, the point is that Usmanov had the opportunity to use one of his multi-billion pound companies to pump money into the club via shirts sponsorship, but this opportunity has been swerved and we have ended up with Car Zoo.

Tbf mate best waiting and seeing what the USM naming rights deal is. If its £25 million+ a season on top of the £12 million FF deal (and possible chance of sponsoring the shirt sleeve / women/academy shirts) then he is pumping a large amount in per year.

He has to be careful around FFP - im all for breaking it but if the club are committed to abide by it they cant arouse too much suspicion I suppose.

I take the point about the possibility of a potentially generous naming rights deal that may or may not happen if we ever get planning permission.

But I don’t accept that it’s remotely suspicious, or that there is anything worth cacking ourselves about. It’s almost like people want there to be a rule that would make valid sponsorship of a club invalid.

Moshiri laughed in the face of Panorama when they tried to make a mountain out of a non-existent mole hill. If Everton manage to strike a deal with one of Usmanov’s genuine blue chip companies, then we can negotiate a blue chip rate, and the Premier League or UEFA won’t be able to say zip.

Problem is mate if UEFA say its not market value there isnt a zip we can do about it.

I thought we would go down the USM road with the shirt but maybe as others have said its easier to sponser 4x more obscure smaller things like a training ground, sleeve, academy side and womens side for £20 million combined rather than lumping £20 million just on the shirt deal which is easier for the authorities to pick holes in.

I assume sponsering a sleeve for example hasnt a recognised & established market in the PL therefore we could argue our case more if we were pulled up on it?

I dont know but best waiting - hopefully the sham of FFP is done away with post Citys court case and we can just spend what we want!

The outcome of City's case certainly will be interesting. But my understanding is that City haven't been charged with agreeing a deal that has somehow been calculated as being above an arbitrary 'market value'. They have instead been charged with fraudulent accounting; with income that was purported to have come from Etihad Airlines actually coming from the owner's pocket?

IMO, there's no way that UEFA can calculate an arbitrary figure of 'market value' for each club and then disallow a club from obtaining a better deal in the real-life market place. Say NEC expressed an interest in sponsoring Everton again, are we expected to believe that UEFA are the ones who decide how much they are allowed to pay?

If blue chip companies want to sponsor an ever present Premier League football club then they can expect to pay blue chip rates, and it won't be for UEFA to do the negotiations.
