Project restart discussion.

I want football to start as early as possible. For this to happen, the Covid-19 situation has to be at a stage were football games won't impact it and the ability of the NHS and the coountry's infrastructure to cope with it.

At this moment, if a team has a player the that contracts the virus, then that team effectively is in lockdown for 2 weeks. There are older employees such as Hodgson at Palace and even Ancelotti at Everton who are 60+ - are they more vulnerable? What about backroom staff who may be vulnerable? If one of those gets ill and suffers and even dies, then a shrug of the shoulders and looking at the floor sheepishly at the floor by the footballing decision makers will not cut it. I am not even going into the rights and wrongs of playing behind closed doors and contract situations arising in June opening the possibility of legal issues or even teams in mid-table not risking their health causing results at both ends of the table to be compromised. I can't see how this can all be remedied for this season to be played out successfully in a timely manner that won't have too onerous an effect on the future season, the Euros and the already compromised dates on the season afterwards due to the Qatar World Cup. That's why I can't see how the league can start up before the next season was due to start if everything goes well with the handling of the pandemic situation.

Add into this, the unfair and heavy financial burden on teams to compete without fans/ gate receipts. That may be ok in the Premier League and for some teams in the Championship, but there'll be some teams that will be put into dire financial situations if that happens.

This can all be avoided or at least ameliorated by voiding. Liverpool are far and ahead the title-elect winners. The European places seem established enough. Brains better than mine could sort that out those top positions and the claim to title. There's nothing settled down in the relegation positions that would satisfy the teams there if relegation was enforced. As for promotion/ relegation in the lower divisions, then promotion and no relegations for this season accommodated by a 22 team premier league with 4 or 5 teams relegated the season after could be possible. For the sake of the nation's health, void it.

Are footballers key workers? If not, are they exempt from social distancing? You can't expect the general population to follow guidelines if other people don't.

Also, the service sector alone is a far larger contributor to the economy than football, but you don't see that anywhere nearly fully reopening any time soon.

I'm not bothered about Liverpool at all (if they get the title, so be it), but I really do not see the need for sporting events of any sort at this time being considered.

That's before discussing the fairness of the competition or the resources needed to run at least forty-six games week across England alone - Drs, medics, cops etc.

By the way, schools reopening are expected for a small number of key years groups (limited numbers), with distancing in place and some form of PPE. So...

My GF is a school teacher... no plans for PPE at all in schools. They are working at starting again on 4th June for some years.

Social distancing isn't law.. it's a guidance. If all players are tested before the game and all are negative then a game can be played.

Not wanting to start a game of one-upmanship (at all), but my wife is a senior member of a large academy trust and involved in the LEA and that's really not true.

Secondly, that's a glib answer: is it not unrealistic to consider that people will see players in close contact and wrongly consider that guidance has been relaxed?

Also, social distancing is (partly) covered under law: I'd recommend reading Sec 6 and 7 of the The Health Protection Regulations 2020.

Why shouldn't it start? apart from the obvious fact we don't want Liverpool to win.

They reckon it would need 300 people for 1 game. Most medium to large business in this country will have more staff than that.

If schools re open then there is no reason for sport behind closed doors to take place. Whether we like it or not is a diff issue. If you don't like it... don't watch it

Can those 300 people run a premier league game by working from home?

Only utter cretins, the same cretins who are disregarding it now.

What do people what? life to shutdown completely for 18 months until a vaccine is found? Totally unrealistic. If football can find a safe way to restart then it should.

What PPE are they going to use in schools? Can't teach with a mask on!

How do we expect kids to not go for a kick about in the park if they see PL football is back?

It sends a lot of signals to rush football back. But none of them are good signals as far as I can see.

All it says it that money comes before health and that it's one rule for sport and one rule for the rest of us.

Honestly... i don't get this at all. Parents and police tell them they can't go for a kick about. That's for fun. Football is work for these players.

Workplaces have to social distance or shouldn't be open. And people are told they should be at home working unless they specifically, categorically cannot.

How do you distance on a football pitch?

Plus football is not a normal job. People will congregate to watch games on tv, be it at a friends house, a relatives, or wherever might be open.

Just to clarify, most medium sized businesses will have nowhere near 300 employees

Precisely.

"You lot need to carry on social distancing but these footballers can tackle each other and spit everywhere no problem"

It's a nonsense.
