As there is no dedicated threads to this and previously related are locked - thought one was needed to discuss this most divisive of subjects.

Okay I accept footballers are athletes and need to train and keep fit even if football is many months off which is certainly possible, but personally I find it abhorrent at this stage to be suggesting dates for resumption of any league (June 8th pencilled in) ,but the media seems hell bent on this issue riding on the coat tails of big money, sporting institutions and even suggesting what a tonic it would be for the nation in these desperate times.

For every voice of reason - like Scott Duxbury Watford chairman there seems to be dozens of ex-pundits, FA moneymen, media moneymen and journalists who seem oblivious by choice or ignorance of what is actually happening in the real world from which they seem well insulated from inside their leisure industry bubbles.

Shameful times.

The media only think about two things - how to acquire money and keep power in the hands of those who help them acquire money.
Yup.
Money talks, the league’s big money sponsors are getting restless and the FA are starting see the money fall from their grasp.

They’ll try everything to get the league restarted, including risking the safety of the players and back room staff.

I just don't see how it can restart. Deaths are only falling because of the lockdown. If we start to lift it, then surely the deaths will start to climb again. This isn't taking into account the real rate which is much higher when care homes are factored in.

We're also getting close to the player's break already followed by pre-season. If we start again soon, none of this will be possible. Will we go straight from 19/20 into 20/21 without any sort of buffer? Then the Euro and the Olympics? Then 21/22? Madness!

As has been mentioned on here a myriad times too, what about the logistics of staging such games. Where will they played? Who will be allowed in the stadium? What about quarantineening? Who will provide policing and medical services? Will players be insured if they catch COVID? What happens if just one player or staff member displays symptoms? How about older people like Roy Hodgson? What about out of contract players? What about the FA Cup? Is that not as important? Will teams be forced to play their strongest teams throughout the remainder? What about players who refuse to play due to vulnerable family members?

There are so many questions and so few answers. Obviously I don't want Liverpool to win the PL and will enjoy the Kopite tears as much as any other decent human being. But putting aside tribal bias, there is still an unarguable case to void the whole season.

Our media, especially the print media, are some of the most corrupt in the world. And not just the obvious weapons like the Sun. Almost all newspapers are owned by tax exiled billionaires or billionaire sociopaths like Murdoch.

The media can push all they like,Sky and the PL can waffle on,but if Im a player still on full wage with 000000s in the bank absolutely no way I am going to risk mine and my families health, how many current players have been on the BBC website saying the show must go on? How do you justify to people they cant see family or friends but 200+ people can gather, how is it keeping the intgerity of the game when the rules are each team plays HOME and AWAY,

I listened to a snippet from the interview with the Watford chairman this morning on local radio, have to say he sounded like a likeable bloke with a sensible view on the whole situation. He is more concerned with the NHS not getting swamped and people remaining healthy than getting back to football anytime soon and puts his point across well.

Incidentally Ian Wright said pretty much the same thing but still managed to sound a bit of a bellend.

Hopefully the players union will show some balls.
The PFA are a closed shop who will work tirelessly to maintain the status quo: money merchants for the players, and this ultimately comes from the TV deals.

While Taylor may on the surface show messages that he's all for showing patience, money will talk and getting games behind closed doors will sustain this.

The other option would be reduced wages for the players, which will in turn impact his sizable wage.
