Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

That’s quite a leap, I’m not sure how you’ve got that from what I said. That’s absolutely not what I said.

If we (as in, society) don’t prepare for the return to normality, discuss it, schedule it, focus on it, then we probably never will return to normality.

Trying to shut down conversation (on a forum of all places) by saying “....my god man, think of everything that’s going on right now! How can you think of Football at a time like this?!”.

..... is both unproductive and impractical. In the most sensitive and wholesome way possible, “the show must go on”.
What a load of bolux.

The show will go on when this is over whether that’s in 3 months or 18 months.

So please tell me when should we get the season back up and running?

Btw not trying to shut down any debate just trying to understand your thinking.

Totally agree, only when it’s safe to do so.

I can’t answer that. Nobody can. Nobody truly knows when this will be over, and it’s at that time when the season will be ready to resume.

having a season split over a time period way longer than normal with a 3 month gap in the middle isn't normal.

for the sake of arguing a point then, lets say we can't play footy for 10 years, you are saying that we should finish the 2019/20 season yay or nay? The arguments against restarting at this time would be more stark but equally valid for not restarting any time after the domestic club season officially ends on June 30.

What’s “normal” about anything going on in the world right now, mate?

It is what it is and we adjust. That’s how it goes. Chances are, even if it were voided, we still may not be ready for the new season in August. That also would not be “normal”.

Lot’s of compromises have to be made and this is just one of them.

Its quite difficult to schedule normality as things stand and honestly I think one of the last things people are going to be arsed with is finishing off a football season once this virus gets a grip

I think you’ve got me wrong, for me the season should void if it can’t start and finish before next season starts. I agree The 30th June should be the cut off point in fact it should be before that date.

No. Obviously not, at some point it will become impractical to resume the current season but when that is nobody can say.

The current deadline is June 30th, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was pushed back further still to accommodate the final few fixtures.

Hypothetically, there would be no insurmountable consequences to finishing the current season at any point this calendar year, though the longer the year goes on, the less feasible that idea becomes and the more tempting it will be to just scrap the whole thing.

It won’t go past 30th June purely due to the contractual minefield that would cause. Engage your brain ffs

The contractual minefield that applies to only 9 first team players across six top flight clubs?

Willian, one of those 9, has already stated he’d be happy to play past his contract date, the PFA would certainly encourage the rest of it’s members to do the same.

Does that change your outlook?

It’s throughout football... not just the premier league.

Let’s flip what you say about Willian and assume the other 8 players refuse ???

Do you agree that if it’s not complete by June the season should be void? Then start 20/21 season in August/September.

OK, let’s accept that that highly unlikely worst case scenario plays out, then Chelsea will have to cope without Pedro (9/29 apps) and Giroud (9/29 apps) for the final few fixtures - what a terrible price to pay.

Likewise, Sheffield United, Burnley, Spurs, Bournemouth and Man City would have to deal without Lundstram, Brady, Hendrick, Vertonghen, Fraser and the soon to be retiring David Silva respectively.

Not at all insurmountable.

Or, y’know, the clubs and players could work together to reach a short term extension to reach the end of the season as a temporary solution - which is absolutely the most likely outcome.
