Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

This will be a bigger recession than the Great Depression. Many corporate entities will be unrecognisable after this if they even still exist. Trump has given himself the powers to nationalise large sections of the US economy. Infections outside China are rocketing. Italy is having to leave bodies unburied. London is going into lockdown with rest of the UK to follow. Potentially 16 times the entire population of Liverpool being hospitalised. Whole sections of people left destitute and demanding a new economic settlement.

In the context of all this, this season will be voided. The government may do it and just ignore the EPL and UEFA. No-one outside of pigeon botherer and Dogleash will give a toss. I doubt the RS would have a legal leg to stand on.

They'll get it finished some way, or will at least find a way to award Liverpool the title. Guaranteed. When that happens is another question though.

Can you imagine the uproar if they decided to challenge the season being cancelled? The entire population agreeing that life is more important than football, yet they launch legal challenges to try to steal the trophy. I can imagine them doing it too!

I think they'll finish the season behind closed doors, unless things get even worse than they are now

Too much money riding on it all

If they can do it safely then fair enough I guess, but I'm not convinced they can
It's not going to be safe though. Playing behind closed doors won't work. Its a disaster waiting to happen. If ANYONE comes down with the virus from games played then the clubs, the FA, the tv companies and the premier league will get sued into oblivion.

Does anyone really think that if the RS (or us and anyone else but especially them) are playing somewhere that loads of idiots won't congregate either around the ground outside or in the pub? Of course they will and they'll all then bring back anything they've picked up to their families thus defeating the whole point of not having games in the first place!

From the players perspective you've got the minimum of fifty/sixty odd people in the ground, with the players and management team of both sides, the refs, the ball boys and general ground staff. If I'm a multimillionaire pro footballer, you're not going to convince me to play a game of football just so the pundits, tv people and the fanboys can have their conclusion to the season.

The only way to play these games safely is by waiting for the virus to be totally resolved and God only knows how long that's going to take. It's all very well everyone saying that the season must be finished but if this goes on for mouths and mouths and mouths like it very well could we'll find very little appetite to finish the remaining nine/eight games of a season that most people stopped thinking about ages ago.

I think the Premier League realise the season can't be completed, but if they announce that it's being voided now, there'll be uproar from the RS biased media.

They're sending the message that they'll try as best they can to complete the season, but in a few weeks time reality will start to kick in, world events will lessen its importance and most people will be resigned to the fact that the season has to be voided.

It cant be resolved asap.

No one on the planet how this will unfold. Football not that important.
no I know it can't be resolved ASAP but the FA need to outline what is going to happen because if the PL doesn't finish it affects so many things, Yeah it's not important when people are dying but these conversations still need to happen because when England overcomes it a firm plan needs to be in place so it isn't a hot mess.

Judging by your governement actions, there is no chance any football will be played soon.

Not the media they are worried about, it's the TV companies and corporate sponsors who might demand money back if the season is voided.

Chinese takeaway closed by me.

The craven authorities are likely to offer them to play one game in the hope they win it and put them out of sight.

Sickeningly ssn are wheeling ex player after ex player to preach to everyone, why they deserve it. I feel this is just a matter of time, till they find a way. Half of these would take the coins from your grandmother's eyes to give them the title. :(

Eddie Hearn has had to call off all boxing events largely because of the lack of medical staff.

The Premier League cannot overcome this either. Would be an utter PR disaster. People dying in hospital corridors but they’ve got medics and an ambulance outside an empty stadium in case a player gets a head injury ?

No chance.
Good point.

Well theres no mention of awarding anyone anything, no talk of extending the season into next year, no talk of behind closed doors or anything like that.
You mean damning as in Liverpool may finish trophy-less? If so, you may be right; no-one knows & there're far bigger fish to fry than continually hoping & praying for the null & void, or for the title to be "gifted" to Liverpool.
