Player Valuation: £80m
Explain why
He’s a free agent he can go where he likes
Clubs can sign a free agent at ANY point in a season
If the PL objects he will have them on Bowman ruling and freedom of labour laws
In essence this is why the ideas being bandied about will soon start evaporating. The people making them, however well intentioned seem to fall at the first stumbling blocks of scrutiny that have been presented.
I had some Kopite earlier saying to me there could be an "act of God clause" that would allow for extensions. His reference was the film miracle on 34th street (the kids Christmas movie).
There seems to be an awful lot of certainty based upon an awful lot of ignorance.
The PL, nor even the PFA can unilaterally extend the contracts (it's not a closed shop arrangement). They can make recommendations but they dont have to be stuck too.
Let's move outside of the PL though. Think of a league 1 footballer, 24 years old, has a contract that's going to treble his salary, with a hefty sign on fee. A sort of contract that would allow you to pay off a mortgage and secure yourself for the adult life.
Scenario 2, a player is out if contract at his league 2 club, 30 years old, they wont be renewing his deal but has a 3 year deal at another club. Hes made ok money out of the game, but the 3 year deal at 200k p/a is probably the difference between him being able to retire at 50 or have to find a new career to keep working until hes 70.
How are you going to compel these lads to jettison those deals just so a few Liverpool fans get to celebrate a title they haven't earned?
In the real world, this will fall down.
