I take it seriously. I’m more afraid of something happening at work than I am in a public space though. We live in a self absorbed society. If people are worried about their health I doubt attending football matches will be a primary motivation of theirs. How many hypochondriacs have already rang 111 or taken themselves to A and E because they “felt a little funny”. How many people are ransacking the supermarket shelves preparing for Armageddon? People look out for themselves and their family. If anyone is worried, they should just make the personal decision not to go somewhere- whether that’s the match, the cinema, the pub a restaurant etc.
What will unfortunately not change though is people needing money. You think the millions of self employed/cash in hand people are going to stay off work if the government advises them to when they’re not entitled to sick pay? I’m doubtful. I got an Uber order delivered this weekend and the driver seemed to have some sort of cold/bug. What should I have done? What should he have done?
My attitude is very much keep on truckin’. Not trying to be flippant or nonchalant, I’m just not a doom merchant. I see in another post of yours that your making your own decisions on whether or not to attend certain public events. That’s exactly how it should be at this stage. I also think that people going on about commercialism trumping public safety are wrong. If things get worse then more measures will be taken and I’ll hold my hands up for my original post you commented to. It’s not like all work is suspended, all schools are closed all public events are banned but the government are like “oh but you can all carry on going the game because the premier league don’t want to be effected”. If the time comes it’ll happen.
