Yard dog what a great old expression that is! When I was a kid in the upper bullens we had a bloke behind us who used to to slate the players all the time, he called Bobby Latchford a yard dog lots of times, he then usually ended up singing 'Bobby Latchford walks on water'.
Tosun the epitome of a yard dog.
 

....Baines comes on and despite not playing for many months is ‘game ready’. Like a top professional, he trains awaiting the moment he’s needed, he thinks awaiting the moment he’s needed. I get the impression Tosun just goes training and just goes home.

He’s not thinking about the moment he’ll be required, he’s not thinking DCL wins headers and if I run beyond him it could be productive. He just comes on and runs around. No thought. He takes the key penalty against Leicester, just runs up with no idea of where he’s putting it. No thought.

He storms down the tunnel after being substituted yesterday, he thinks he’s effective but you have to work at being effective.
