We were riding high on the "best squad in years" quotes from Moyes back then, so maybe Everton wanted to keep him for our crack at the title. It seems a fair enough gamble, sadly it hasn't worked.
I mean with regards to whether the fans would accept Pienaar back or not. If he turned round tomorrow and said that he wanted to stay, I think most people would be pretty pleased.
Meanwhile, he's been very good for us the whole time and the contract issue hasn't gone to his head out on the pitch.
...and as I said in my original post, that's more than fair for the supporters to be upset that he didn't play yesterday. For me, that's been the only issue I've had with him during this whole deal. I mean if he's going to give 100% every match up till now, why couldn't he give us one more yesterday. My opinion is that he would have made a difference on the pitch.

I was with you until these contradictory statements. Pienaar is indeed entitled to run his contract down and move on for nothing. BUT his contract with Everton Football Club runs until the END of this season. SO if he starts refusing to play now, presumably to prevent himself becoming injured, he is acting unethically and unfairly towards the supporters who, ultimately, provide him with a fine living. It's his right to run down his contract but it is his risk that he seriously injures himself without contract coverage. A withdrawl of labour, just as if I went on strike, should result in a withdrawl of salary (and respect from the supporters and staff of this fine football club)

What if the transfer is not sorted and he declines to play in the next game?

A shame to see him go, but (if SSN are to be believed) £3 million for someone with six months left on their contract, who doesnt want to sign a new one with us, and who we only paid £2 million for anyway, is probably about as good as it gets.
