Not that I'd have kept either of them, but I still don't understand how Baines got a new deal ahead of Jagielka.
Why should Jagielka have got one?

don't see the harm in giving him 1 season as back up..but he definitely has to go when the season ends.I love the bloke, but he really should have been put down after that Wolves debacle last season, kinder all round.
I'm guessing that Baines has been kept on in some kind of dressing room leadership role, given that he hasn't managed 30+ league appearances since 2016/17, but Jagielka could have done that and also played the odd game. Why should Jagielka have got one?
Or perhaps it's just that you can't see the obvious correlation between a team struggling to win games when they concede, and a team only scoring 13 goals in 12 games? It's not conceding first that's our problem, it's conceding full stop. In 2019 we've only won two games where we've conceded a goal, all our other wins have been to nil. It's not a mental thing, it's a tactical/ability thing. We don't score enough goals, so when we concede at any point in the game our chances of winning hugely diminish.Whichever way the criticism comes, the problem remains.
The eg given means nothing in this context.
The interest and aim should be how do you get the team to successfully respond and overcome situations like the Brighton VAR or when simply going a goal behind.
Manure was able to do this more often than not during the Ferguson era, this eg is just about going too far, which they probably learnt from.
Perhaps you can't just see the correlation between a team who has managed only once to come from behind and win (against the worst side in the league) and the repsonse following the VAR decision.
The question is not whether the problem exists but rather whats the source/nature of the problem - and no its not bc we are unlucky.
I agree however our gutless manager never kicks up a fuss about it and actually praises the refs so what can we do?
I don’t begrudge him a contract, I just think he’s well and truly gone. Injuries have ravaged him, and it’s telling that he hasn’t even been given a league cup run out this season. Reckon if injuries permitted we’d probably move things round to play someone else there ahead of him if digne was to miss a game, delph or sidibe maybe.don't see the harm in giving him 1 season as back up..but he definitely has to go when the season ends.

Like I said, I wouldn't have retained either, but if I had to choose between them, I'd have gone for the one who can at least make it to half-time.
Jags might have asked to go to Sheff Utd? If he's gonna be on the bench anyway
At what point does his decision to retain Marco Silva become negligent?
Time to earn your money big fella. Marco has been allowed to rot for far too long, hope you have another option
