It does and that’s why VAR was brought in with the wording of ‘clear and obvious error’, which would suggest leeway and/or a threshold involved.

Decisions like today or even that shower’s last week are not clear and obvious errors because it’s fair to argue that the decisions are actually far too close to call.

Any rational fan would be giving the little toe-offside, or an arm or an armpit, yet the FA are making a mockery of the process even before the other awful ones.
Clear and obvious isn't meant to apply to offside. It isn't a judgment call. There are two lines and if the attackers line is farther forward it is offside.

So really too close to call comes down to do you trust the technology they're using to draw the lines. If you do, as I do, it's hard to really argue that they're getting it wrong by the rulebook. Is it ruining the spirit of the game? I don't know that's a whole different question that is very tough to answer. But I just don't think they're getting calls wrong for offside.

I understand where your coming from but on this one as long as its objective and there is consistently proven that abody part is in an offside position with those lines they use then around the league then the system will work. As harsh as big toe or hand offside calls will be to the team whose goal is disallowed. Its the subjective calls like the Alli handball and Keane penalty after accidently stepping on a foot while looking at the ball in the sky is hwere the massive inconsistencies and controversy lie in my opinion. Again harsh of Sheffield here but shown on tv to be right.......
How do you know that is 100% right though? Can you prove that is exactly when that pass left his foot? No so it should be benefit to the forward. That decision is an utter joke and even with the dodgy lines I am not sure he is offside.

It is 100% right because of the technology they use (yes they do see when the ball is kicked and pause at that moment) and also because offside is the only factual call made by VAR. It is similar to the goal line technology where now it is either across the line or not. Same with offside, it is either offside or not (level goes to attacker) but if a player is off by a toe or elbow its harsh but irrelevant to the fact its still offside.
This article explains exactly this if you’re interested:

I've said it before and I'll say it again. All they have to do is announce that all fag-paper close offside dicisions will be decided by the referee's original decision. It's ridiculous to spend so much time over something so obviously not a clear and obvious mistake. Until they are given the directive, VAR adjudicators will be so worried about getting it wrong they will continue to take ever longer to get offside decisions 'right'

As for other decisions, we definitely got away with one yesterday with Mina's clear elbow.

So if it is 100% right then why was it proved wrong last weekend with Firmino given offside when he actually wasn't?

Yes, again in this instance talking very fine lines and as I said if it was exactly even benefit should go to the attacker being on but in the case of the VAR official he deemed it wasn't level by the slightest of margins so offside. Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher:

It's either corrupt or or not up to standard.

Spurs have been massive benefactors. Is it because Kane is England's diamond? Son brings huge viewings in Asia? Levy or the owner close with the ruling figures?

It's hurting the premier league.

It won't be this. Because of the timezones, it's on at bonkers o'clock in Korea.
