How do we fit Tim Cahill into the team now?

I think he made one, maybe two appearances...then the penny dropped...as well as the ball!!

I wouldn't want to, and I also wouldn't want to stop playing 2 out and out strikers. Ergo the only things I can think of, are a diamond formation, or Cahill at LM. The former excites me more.

I find it hard to imagine Moyes being so progressive. There are a couple of obvious options:

Coleman Fellaini Cahill Arteta
______Saha Beckford

One holding and the other pushing forward is how they used to do it in the good old days. With Pienaar surely departing, Arteta could cut in from the left.

Fellaini would need to be disciplined in the anchor role. It frees Cahill to get forward more though. Coleman and Arteta play narrow.

Playing Beckford from the left. With two holding midfielders, he'd have the same sort of freedom to join the attack that Podolski or Robben enjoyed during the World Cup.

The problem is that Moyes plays to suit Cahill. He needs to find a system that also benefits our other attacking players. Rodwell and Fellaini work well together. Saha and Beckford's partnership is looking promising. Coleman has to be in the side at the moment. How can we accommodate them all?

Maybe something like this?

Rodders could help to protect Baines. We'd have a strong shield for the defence and any of the trio could break forward. It does lack width. Beckford could peel off to help stretch the opposition. Alternatively Coleman could slot in at wing back, with Arteta coming in on the right.
