As frustrated as I am with him, it may be wise to start Schneiderlin and keep him engaged with the team. We don’t want another situation where he loses all interest and we have another useless player on the books. Gbamin isn’t necessarily ready either, so it makes sense.

If he pulls any crap though, I wouldn’t hesitate to sub him. And I understand the shouts to never play him again. I’m about there with him as well.

I see where you're coming from, but I wouldn't start him merely to keep him engaged. The issue with Schneiderlin goes back each time to his attitude. He is being paid well enough. If he is in or out of the team it should be on merit and he should adjust accordingly to try and make the XI when he isn't selected.

Gbamin was thrown in at the deep end perhaps too early but IMO better to keep him in there now. Schneiderlin should be used as sparingly as possible before hopefully he gets shipped out next summer.

Yeah if Gbamin was 100 percent ready I’d agree. We are a bit thin atm (even though we have 5-6 central midfielders which is stupid).

Concerned with his Sidibe comments....basically saying he's fully fit, but he wasn't selected last week even on the bench. I know that the Prem and League 1 or different, but a bit worried that he isn't seen as being ahead of Holgate. Hopefully not an attitude problem.

When you are picking your subs, you are trying to include cover for all of the pitch.
Holgate can play centre back as well as right back , so he covers two positions whereas Sidibe covers just right back.
Generally, you would try to have cover for the defence in midfield but the more attacking options you can include the better as it gives you more choices if you trying to chase a game or change the direction of a game.

....agree, it’s not a matter of picking a team to keep players happy, it’s about picking your best team and keeping the squad competitive. It will be interesting what Silva does with a Gbamin/Schneiderlin. I get the impression he really likes Gbamin and wants his athleticism in the team but 3 games in quick succession might sway Silva to give him a break. We’ll see.

Yes.

Also I did read that Sidibé can play at LB too.

I prefer to read transcripts managers are so emotionless and monotone these days. with thier 'media training'. I zone out.

SILVA PRE MATCH LINCOLN P/C

Silva on Gbamin
Day by day we will see how he can be. For the moment we can talk to you about 6-8 weeks.
In this moment these are the targets for him to be training with us.

It’s a tough moment for him of course, and we are here to support him. It’s not an easy moment, but it’s part of football and it can happen. Now it’s up to us to put him in the best condition.”

Delph ready
Marco Silva says Delph in the “condition” to play.

Silva on Lincoln selection
Lincoln is a team we know very well, they know us well.
We play with our maximum ambition in this competition to do something special.
We will play with the XI I think is best to win the match.

We are talking about a team very strong on set pieces and they will give their maximum to play against us.
It’s up to us to do what we should to win the match.

Silva on his own side
We have to be ourselves, respect the competition and respect the opponent.
This type of competition is always tough to play, but we have full confidence in our team.

On the League Cup
In football, the most important thing is winning football matches.
Our way is to go there to win the football match, to stay in this competition.

Silva on Delph
When we signed him I said for sure he’d be an important player for us.
He can give different options to me in a technical point of view.
Now is a moment for us to decide if he’s ready to start or not.
He will be a really good player for us.

On JP and Delph
When you lose one player like JP, you’re talking about a completely different profile.
Fabian can play No. 6 but he’s a different profile.
Maybe we have to play a different way when he is there.

On Aston Villa
The last game was a bad result for us but we have to react.

Silva on Iwobi
Not just him but Kean’s impact was really important [against Villa]. They understood what I expect.
Alex gave us very good things in that moment and I’m very sure with more minutes we’ll see his quality.
