Can someone explain how Liverpool's penalty was legit?
Not being funny but given how.easy salah goes down at the best of times, if he doesn't go down there then for me he's clearly not being impeded.
The fact that he had a clear shot on goal should have been enough for an advantage at the most

I think what this clear and obvious standard means is that if the ref reviewing the play contacts the ref on the field and the ref on the field says he didn't think the contact was enough for a penalty it basically can't be overturned because the ref saw the contact and evaluated it as not enough so it isn't clear and obvious to say that it really was enough for a foul.

That's confusing to follow but basically it means if the ref on the field says he saw the contact it might not ever get overturned which is a pretty pointless system.

The ref has to make a split decision, so surely if the ref says he didn't think there was enough contact, but VAR have the advantage of replaying the incident a few time, and they say pen, then the ref has to give it, or does the refs original decision stand? If so VAR isn't doing the job it was brought in for.

I said at the start of the season the problem with VAR is it still ultimately comes down to the same incompitent officials judging whats right and wrong they will still show favouritism and like most professions wont call there own type out

I think they've decided they don't want to argue over how much contact is a penalty so if the ref sees the contact and says yes it is a penalty and there is contact they aren't changing it. Only if the ref says there was contact and there actually was not would it be clear and obvious enough. Which is dumb.

I'm sick of pundits and managers saying "we are stuck with VAR and have to live with it". If enough influential people and groups lobby against it at the highest level, then the FA have to listen.
I've said it before but VAR will be the star of this season; not a talented player or a great team.
Football has been alive and kicking for over 130 years without VAR.

Is there any chance var will go?
Hate it

Dont want the whole lot binned off, just the marginal stuff that is open to interpretation. Offside, goal line, ID, and violent conduct. And obvious howlers. If its not obvious to a professional referee, and only visible after super slow mo close ups, well thats life.

Man u should of had a couple of pens , city blatant pen not given Tottenham should of had one, Liverpool have a sniff it's given , it's victims assisted referee , after 3 weeks the bias is obvious, wait until Christmas everyone will be onto it.

Is this really a question? Even when watching it through my blue shades in a Leeds pub we all saw obvious shirt pulling. We're in danger of letting our biases spoil an argument. Yeah, some decisions were harsh on City, but that one was correct.

The main issue is the officials viewing the calls. So many pens should have been given so far this season but haven’t been. There needs to be a change of the fellas watching the replays because they seem scared to overrule the ref’s original call. I’ve seen VAR used so much better than the Prem is using it.

At the moment it’s basically nothing more than making sure they’re getting the offside calls correct.

Not denying the shirt pull, but to me the ref blew before letting the action play out.
It was quite clear the pull had no effect as salah got away from Luiz and had the chance to shoot

The whole 'clear and obvious' thing is what a lot of people are getting hung up about. I think it should be a 30 second window to review the incident. If it has to be reviewed for more than that, then it could not be clear or obvious.
