....Aston Villa v Everton, a top flight match between two founder members of the league. I really don’t think sufficient recognition is given to the 12 clubs who this incredible game owes so much to.

If there is a worthy campaign, it’s to recognise the surviving founder members with a permanent and unique insignia on their shirts (in much the same fashion as the European and World Cup ‘stars’).
Great idea, but never going to happen in the world where football was created in 1992 by sky.

Indeed.

If this was a night game at Goodison, the place would be bouncing and we would tonk Villa.

Yep.. was thinking exactly this earlier this morning... being away from home has me far from expecting a stroll in the park. Especially as Richy and Sig aren’t firing yet and we can’t bank on DCL or Bernard to bang them in ... must play Kean

Reading a Villa forum and one of the morons said he’s seen them be better than us ‘mugs’ all his life.

Just had a quick look and they’ve finished above us twice in sixteen seasons. How old is he?!

They’re also saying this:
On they're day Everton is as good as anyone in this league.
They battered Man Utd 4-0 last season and should be miles ahead of us. Expecting a defeat anything else is a bonus.

Just spent the last while reading the villa forum thread top to bottom.. to be fair they pretty grounded in reality and most expect us to win and would take a draw. They desperate for a point. They well aware we not firing YET, and also that we have the 2nd tightest defence of 2019.

No anti Everton hyperbole and many respect and enjoy the fact that this is the most played fixture. You might have some coverts to your idea @Eggs

They not as amusingly self deprecating as our lot but seem a decent bunch.

Of our team the player they fear most appears to be Sigurdsson. Feel real risk they will give him too much space. Think they appreciate him more than our own fans right now. They don’t seem to be to aware of Kean yet.. ace up our sleeve.

I'm going to this tonight, sat amongst the Villa fans. Dreading the drive there on a friday bank holiday evening ....
I went to villa v Brighton at villa park on the final day of the championship a few seasons ago. When Brighton took the lead a lad a few rows in front jumped up to celebrate and villa fans kicked off big time. So sitting in with that lot might be worse than the drive down.

I can't wait for the day that we don't see games against freshly promoted sides as tricky and instead as an opportunity to have some whipping boys. One day

I agree with you, but I think it’s all the other things that lead to trepidation tonight. The Grealish stat, first home night game back in the Prem, when they need a win.

I think they are a poor side, but will be well up for it tonight. Will be a tough game, 2-2 for me

Brilliant idea but they would never do it because Liverpool never won it!
