A Personal Appeal to David Moyes; Russian Roulette

The really disappointing thing is, I don't think he's ever been given the chance. We've crippled his confidence, make no mistake.

It's the managers job to get the best out of him. The talent is clearly there.

That's it. It appeared he really needed that break.....but its now a few days off being 2011!!! How many starts has he had this year? He did have a very wobbly few games, couldn't understand why he couldn't appear to run faster than I walk?

Anyone ever really seen some of his video's pre-Everton? He looked to be a player who loved to run at players, yes, RUN! He almost looks like he just needs to get involved near the oppostions goal. Give him the ball to pass it around or even better, rifle one in, but he's definitely better than that. Just hope with Cahill going off for a bit, and who knows what's going on with Pienaar, that he now gets a look in. He HAS to

I think I said the same thing earlier. I really like Billy, I was really looking forward to seeing him this season, after a decent rest. Fully expected him to "do a Fellaini" (although was never one of the ones slating him, either) and be absolutely boss this season, but he's hardly figured at all. I don't get it, in all honesty.

Yeah, he had a dip in form, but look at Arteta and he still walks into the team. He's wasted on our bench. He's clearly a talented player and I'm amazed he hasn't handed in a transfer request. Being at Everton is harming his career right now, so full credit to the kid for not making a fuss about it.

*cue Billy in the papers asking for a transfer*

The fact he rarely gets minutes must surely mean his attitude in training is bad. There has been games where we all are crying out for him to get on the pitch, yet he stays on the bench. To me that says it all. It says that Moyes has no faith in him.

He's certainly no VDM in his actions off the field, because clearly he keeps his mouth shut and does not appear to like the high life. It does seem he must be like him in training tough, as he must not be impressing anyone enough to even get 30 mins here and there.

1.) Never assume anything when it comes to Moyes' reasoning for picking/not picking a player.

2.) If that is the case, then surely it's Moyes' job to get him to put the effort in, and improve? He got a bit of game time against city, and I remember saying after that he'd earned the right to play some part in our next game, because he was lively, he was tracking back and defending like a trooper, and he looked good on the counter. He really helped us win that game in a crucial period. And subsequently, he got 2 minutes against West Ham. What must that do to his confidence?

Well, Moyes is allegedly a tactical genius (sic), so there must be a way to incorporate both of them into the team.
I love Cahill, he is my favourite player, almost is Moyes personified on the pitch - but he must have photos of Moyes...

I agree. Moyes has this season dented the confidence of quite a few players. Yak and Bily being the two seemingly treated badly, but also ALL our forwards taking a bashing from him. His decisions this season have baffled me constantly.
He DOES bare grudges, and that is clearly stopping us getting results.

Another point I made a while back, is that Bily seems to fit the mold of Russians in the premier league.

Arshavin, Pavyluchenko and to some extent Zhirkov do on occasion show moments of genius, but are inconsistent and sometimes frustrating. However, the 3 I just named all get a lot more game time in their teams, and their teams are a lot better than ours and have higher ambitions. So if title chasing teams can afford to stick by their inconsistent Russians, why aren't we sticking by ours, when the players we do field are underperforming anyway, and Bily is capable of that moment of inspiration we desperately need?

I could rattle on about why Billy should be rightfully playing week in week out but I shall sum up by saying...

...Why not? He surely cannot be doing any worse than Pienaar, Arteta, Yak or Saha can he? He certainly doesn't have the prestige that those other players have, so he can't exactly be doing himself a disservice.

Agree 100% about his attitude though, I met him in Sopporo's in town once and he was totally awesome with me.

give him ago in Cahill's shoes floating behind a lone striker, with Felli and Arteta behind to form the foundation of the midfield, Coleman right and peanuts(then when he leaves mageye) on the left.

Maybe thats part of it but he's shown what he can do on the pitch, we know he has talent and can score from distance.

What does it matter what he does in training when he can do that on the pitch and we need goals from somewhere? Surely he doesn't stink that much he isn't worth a go?

If he (Moyes) doesn't at least TRY him in Cahill's position when the aussie leaves us for the Asian cup then I'll honestly be a bit dumbfounded..

He seems a good guy, and he's clearly got bags of talent beneath it all.

The reason I made this thread is that I know these things, but the way Moyes has been treating him is making me think he's going to sell him. And that worries me, because I would be incredibly disappointed and pissed off to see him leave, with so, so much unfinished business and untapped potential.

Apparently Saha and Arteta have been ace in training this season. And that's one of the reasons Moyes plays them.

Seems a bit backwards to me though, when on the pitch they've been consistently woeful.

I feared for the worst when I read the title of this thread that it would be one of them [Poor language removed] threads where someone says something stupid.

However you made good points.

That was a nice surprise. Keep it up.

Holy [Poor language removed]!

That was so... un-Damon. I'm flattered, truly.

Nice one.

Its a fine balance, what happens day to day is important, but so is what happens on the pitch.

I'd say the latter is the more important thing which players should be played on.

But to be honest i don't believe Arteta and Saha are so amazing in training yet god awful on the pitch, that just doesnt add up.

Well they've been woeful on the pitch, I know that much!
