A certain Spanish striker.

There are basically two of those that I know of. Kante so good luck and Ndidi who will cost more because he's 23. So doing what you say will require Brands to find someone who can do what Gana does but hasn't done it yet. That's not easy.

And own up, you had never heard of any of those 3 players until they started playing well. Gana maybe perhaps.

It's Brand's job though, Gana needs replacing sooner or later he's 30 years old in a couple of months. If we can do it and make some scrolls, even better. If we can do it.

Ndidi had a reputation in Belgium. Kante no one knew of obviously. But how many players are signed as defensive midfielders who aren't able to do what they do? The next one is out there but we could also just keep the one we have.

From watching Barrios at the Copa America he looks to be in that same type of mould, he was absolutely everywhere in that Argentina game

Gana is very good at what he does, but the skills in his role aren’t that rare- guys who can tackle and defend are easier to find than guys who can score 15 goals. If we can sell Gana and get big money for him at his age, get a guy who does 80% of what he does at 40% of the price, and have funds left over to invest elsewhere, grab it and run.

Edit: Gana and his comps in this thread are all African. Bet that good scouting of AFCON- or Copa- would yield a couple of young players who could do the job and come cheaply.

The skill itself isn't rare. Finding someone who does it as many times in the course of 90 minutes is. Even if the guy does 80% we have to have someone pick up the other 20% or we will concede more and the midfielder we just signed doesn't figure to be someone who can pick up that slack.

If there were that many PSG wouldn't be after our 30 year old Gueye
