It's clear that Gnomes was sorted a few days after the loan. It's really easy to sort a free transfer as no money is involved so that's pretty much no work all summer.

So if a player doesn't want to discuss his future until after the CA of AFCON... If his club are unsure of accepting bids until they see how their business turns out, if there are several competing offers of personal terms or a sticking point in negotiation... How do these get solved in a day?

This isn't Football Manager it's the careers of young people, big decisions for them and the multi-billion Euro businesses competing for their registrations.

Silva said that himself and Brands already had their targets identified. We've only moved on Gomes, who was already here. We'll spend all summer pursuing Zouma, who was already here.

We're clearly struggling for funds for reinforcements.

Or we’ve spoken with Ajax and know what they want for Neres. We’ve had very encouraging talks with his agent and provisionally agreed a deal. Now we’re just waiting for him to finish in the Copa America before we get everything signed. He can’t come here today even if he was signed, he probably won’t be back here for over 3 weeks now even if he was signed.

Zouma....we’ll know his thoughts and I’d assume we’re happy he’s done subject to the new manager giving it the OK. We obviously feel this is worth waiting for and are confident it will happen.

If Kean’s a target but unavailable now however he may be available when they sign Icardi, why wet the bed, panic and go for option 2 if option 1 is who you want long term and you may still get him. Again, he’s off on holidays after the Euros so wouldn’t be here even if he was signed anyway.

On a purely practical basis, even if it's a done deal and he's signed he can't find anywhere to live or move house whilst he's away on the other side of the world.
