This is just putting it out there and of course is pure conjecture, but given the abuse scandal that we now know about, might it be possible that if Speed was a victim, one of his abusers may have been drunk/drinking and because of those memories that it invoked Speed had to leave. Could be nothing to it and Gary thought Kendall had lost what he had but would make some sense for the extreme reaction if it was purely down to the smell of alcohol.

I imagine it was more due to the long term nature of the drinking culture problem at the time within the club and the frustration that Gary Speed felt as a senior pro when he could see things falling apart at the club when it needed addressing and his inability to affect the situation to the good. It is difficult to speculate however and a very sensitive topic given his suicide.

Anyway, back on topic, Get Joey Barton in charge. It'd be hilarious.
