Mentioning him in the same sentence as Ryan Fraser like they had something in common struck me as odd. Not that I think we will sign Leao regardless.
The article is saying they do have something in common though. They're both players we have an interest in, but neither are our first choices for their respective positions. That's why they're mentioned in the same sentence.

linked with some players today,

Reece James from Chelsea, RB was on loan at Wigan last year, 19 years young
Shinji Kagawa, from Dortmund, was on loan in Turkey last year, 30 years old, seems like a west ham signing to me
Rafael Leão from french club Lille, CF, 19, fast and skillful, looks good, could cost a fortune though.

Meanwhile;
Baines linked with Villa,
Pennington linked with Derby
Kenny linked with Burnley (loan)

Ok admittedly I wasn't fully awake while reading it and it seemed like he was saying both were not being signed because they were right footed.

Don't we kind of have that with Richarlison already? I'm worried that Traore would give us a left footed player very similar to Richarlison which I don't love.
I think the point is that the players become interchangeable because they can all play across the forward line. If only one of your players can do it it's not much use really, because he'll never be able to swap with the others...

I thought he meant from a starting the game standpoint but that makes sense. Personally I think that's overrated. City don't have their wingers roaming all over and neither do the RS. Ronaldo and Messi roam for their teams but the rest stay relatively close to their positions. To me getting a top notch creator and a goal scoring pure striker are the two most important things to kick our attack up another gear and Traore I don't think is either.

It isn’t though, is it?

We don’t need to be improving at left back, whereas Chelsea need to be improving at right back. Robinson is nowhere near the standard that Digne is at but James may arguably be a more effective right back than Azpilicueta is.

If you haven’t seen Reece James play then I understand why you’d say that but the lad is genuine quality.

Let’s see. You said he will take the place off their captain (or stand in anyway). I highly doubt that.
