With “fans outside Merseyside” being a common insult to the reds, why are the scouser Everton fans thoughts on international Everton fans?

Got to tell you its hard being from down south and supporting Everton. The amount of stick Ive taken over the years is staggering.

What I would like to know is what makes you a real supporter? Is it coming from the area? Or is it sticking by your teams side even when there seems little point to it? I dont see any of the benefits of Everton in the community. I just get the p*ss taken.

I also feel this staunch area requirement to base "real supporters" on alienates the teams fan base. Ive had "real" supporters with a proper Scouse accents ask me if I should be in the away pubs before. haha, I just laugh and tell them Ive probably supported the team longer than they have.

I'll never really understand it, it's always puzzled me to an extent even since I was a kid and if we are ever successful again (as if)) one of the downsides to that (to me) would be an extra 10,000 wools in the city every other week. I'm sure the club and others love them like (cha-ching).

We need a stand in BMD where they call all sit together (HAS to be the stand where the main tv camera is so they wont be seen on tv LOL. Make the WIFI strong, have multi-lingual signs and merchandise everywhere, Toffee Ladies, cheerleaders and that big stupid foam "Dixie" character from years ago!
Like it or not, the rats reduced their season tickets so that they could accommodate the tourists on their one and only visit to Analfield. They spend £100's in the club shops and get the match and date printed on their shiny new £80 replica jerseys. Absolute extortion but a serious money maker. These weapons probably bring in £100m a year.

Everton??? Well our club shop probably shuts on matchdays, our replica jersey sales make the club absolutely nothing, our catering in the stadium is the worst in world football probably and we offer obstructed views and animosity towards non-North-end scousers. I have even seen animosity to scousers from Smithdown Road! Never mind a Chinese or Scandinavian!!!

Not saying we need to embrace the tourist, but with a central stadium in town we need to at least tolerate them if we want to win things and be commercially a success!

i got some stick from a lad from walton for being from childwall once, think the north end dont trust people they see as posh or something

ill be honest i dont really get what they get out of it, (barring exiled or ones whos dads moved away and supported us)

i dont really get how people can wake up one morning and decide they support a team miles away and feel the same connection of people who have supported them through generations personally. id rather just support my local team

How would you possibly know that ? It's an easy thing to say if you're born in L4, but you simply can not know what you'd have done if you'd been born in some other city, or perhaps somewhere way out in the countryside.

because i know what its like to support my local team, i have other teams i keep an eye on (Hibs, valencia and Accy stanley) its not really the same

I live in the East of England. I saw the 1966 Cup Final on tv as a 14 year old and was hooked so I suppose that fits with "waking up one morning and deciding to support a team miles away". I have also supported my local team, however I consider Everton to be my first team even though I'm not considered by some to be a "proper" supporter.

Sounds like much the same as my story, albeit a few decades earlier. Although I don't feel the need to choose between my local team and Everton, as to who is my 'first team'.

One thing that seems a bit strange to me though, is that people who say you should only support your local team, seemingly are completely fine with cheering on the foreigners in that local team.

Exactly. Truth is there are very few if any 'local' teams left in professional sports. How many born in North Liverpool go regularly to watch Bootle FC or any of the many other 'local' clubs?

Thanks for tolerating me. I’ve been a huge fan for 37 years, but now, finally, I feel validated.

you support the team not the players though. dont think anyone is suggesting you have to be born in liverpool to play for everton.

tho i did read an article how some foreign fans support players rather than teams, basically like ronaldo fans dont support real now even if they had for years and support Juve now.

It was based on Son some fella saying hed probs support arsenal if they moved there cos hes korean and he loves to see a fellow korean do well

Of course, but the point was that even if they lived in Vesty Road, Bootle, they would still be likely to follow one of the big two clubs in the City.
You seemed to be implying that somebody born in say Gillingham should by default be a Gillingham supporter because that's their local team.

Now that I'll never understand.

They've never been real fans in the first place then. Will also never really understand how someone can randomly choose a Premier or whatever foreign club they're going to support. Not the way I became an Evertonian, that's for sure.

As you said at the beginning of your post, 'you support the team, not the players'.
