it was announced earlier today Darren Huckerby has joined Bolton Wanderers as an U23 coach. He will sign with the club immediately but will not start the role until July 2023.

BOLTON WIN FOUR OUT OF LAST FIVE GAMES
After beating Millwall two days before, it was Cardiff City looking to establish their claim for the Championship title with a trip to the University of Bolton Stadium. Things didn't get off to a great start for Cardiff when Etheridge put the ball into his own net after Duke-McKenna's shot rattled the cross bar and rebounded off the keeper causing a freak goal giving Wanderers an early lead. Bolton battled strong, fought for every second ball and when won posession played quick counter attacking football. Jon Patterson scored a nicely hit right footed strike when Oztumer played him in on goal to double Bolton's lead. The trotters in dreamland with a two goal cushion against strong opposition. Ten minutes later Patterson had a header go narrowly over the bar from Oztumer's corner. The team certainly beginning to click under the new manager's regime. Bolton controlled the game and Cardiff were left ultimately frustrated. Zohore grabbed a late consolation when Cavare's clearance was closed down by Zohore who tapped it into the net. It would be nothing more as Bolton put in a solid display and came against the odds to pick up a great victory.
Referee Andrew Davies brandished an astonishing eleven cards without a player being sent off in what was a battle on the park between Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers. A game which saw Bristol City have more chances but an excellent defensive display from Wanderers managed to keep them out and keep a clean sheet which gave fans a glimpse of a side that can look good in attack and also know when to shut the door. Oztumer scored the only goal of the game from the spot early in the game and happened to be enough to see Wanderers get over the line in a hard fought away win.
Sheffield United were the next team to fall on their sword in their away tie at Bolton. A strong home performance for Bolton with a poor away showing from The Blades. Sean Robertson once again causing a headache for his temporary manager Duncan Ferguson who wants to sign the winger but feels Palace may want an unaffordable fee. John-Jules found Robertson on the overlap down the right putting the ball in front of him but with still work to do. Enda Stevens was left for dead when Robertson drifted past him and before Ben Wilmot could get near hit a lovely shot on his left foot that curled into the bottom corner. Declan Rudd left with no chance. Wanderers showed consistency with their performance and thew one goal was enough to claim all three points.
DF: The performances have picked up and what was a disjointed side now look like and play like an actual team. I have a squad I can call on who will give their all for the team and ask for no more than hard work and effort. Robertson has been class, he really has. As we walked round the pitch at the end of the game today, the fans chanted his name and it's obvious they want a deal made for him. We've got one more game to go and as long as we perform again like we did, it will be a fantastic end to the season.
The spoils shared on the last day of the season but Oztumer got Bolton off to a flier inside 5 minutes scoring a long range effort after Knapman set up the Turkish international. Kieftenbeld put in a diagonal ball for Trevor Clarke to finish on his left foot, equalising for City. Bolton stayed in the game and got forward often through McNeil and Robertson, Oztumer playing the role of playmaker to perfection but John-Jules up top could not finish the opportunities put to him. Young winger who had been making waves in the U23's league Scott Bentley came on for Bolton on 60 minutes. The winger who signed from Boreham Wood for £50k in January earned his call up and almost scored on his debut cutting in from the right but his shot was parried by Conor Johnston in goal. The game finished a draw and was a good away point for Bolton who finished the season unbeaten in the last five.
DF: We played well today and got a good point. There are positive signs to take into pre-season and the next step is progression. We wasn't expected to stay up this season and although John McGreal put Bolton in a fantastic position in the league before he left, it was important we sustained that. I think we finish the season on 59 points which is more than I expected to be honest, I think last month I aimed for 55. I'm pleased and the lads should be as well. Scott's (Bentley) has been showing signs of improvement in training and for the reserves so he earned his chance today, the same goes for all lads in the academy, play well, train hard and you'll get your chance here. Nobody's place is guaranteed, like I say, hard work will be rewarded.
