Sunderland score.webp

Another emphatic display from Dwight McNeil turning in a performance of the highest quality. Sean Robertson was instrumental down the right crossing for McNeil to score his first of the game and the second followed in stoppage time of the first period when McNeil launched a counter attack from the edge of his own box switching the play to Robertson who returned the ball for McNeil to put away. Fantastic play from the wingers and a delight to watch. Bolton won their third game on the run and started to put daylight between themselves and the drop.

Leeds score.webp

With one of the best sides in the Championship visiting Bolton, it was still attacking football on the menu for Ferguson's men and Leeds came into this game underachieving in the league. Sean Robertson maintained his excellent form scoring from a pass from midfielder Leon Knapman in the eight minute. Bolton off to a flier. Leeds started to get into the game as Bolton sat back to defend some heavy pressure from Leeds but Chang-Hoon scored a placed shot as the defence failed to clear the danger. An evenly matched second half and some superb goalkeeping from Ben Amos kept Bolton in with a shout. Chang-Hoon ran Bolton ragged from attacking midfield but a sturdy display kept Wanderers in the game. Oztumer made a late introduction into the Bolton midfield looking to create openings around the Leeds box but the creativity was not quite there. A fair result overall and a game Leeds were expected to win.

bristol rovers score.webp

A dramatic finish to the game saw the hard work undone by Wanderers and Bristol Rovers took all three points. Robertson was a delight to watch once again, the man of the match scoring twice and putting Wanderers two up. Robertson got his first with a tap in at the far post. Bolton waited patiently for their opening for the second with slow build up play being orchestrated by Greg Doherty who found Robertson who used his pace to break into the area and finish with his weaker foot. With ten minuted remaining Ferguson decided to try and hang on to his lead but the momentum was building with Rovers who had the fans roaring them on. Bristol won a corner and the ground erupted, Burgess was there at the front post to knock in the header as the ball was crossed in. A lifeline for Bristol. Robertson lost possession in the 85th minute and a long ball was lauched forward to Payne who got through on goal but his shot was saved by Amos but hit Bellusci who almost put it into his own net and Payne managed to get another bite at it and scrambled it over the line. 2-2 with still time to play. A blow for Bolton who had threw away their lead within a few minutes. 91 minutes on the clock and Bolton concede a free kick near to the touchline. Morris crossed in to find the head of Pereira who beat Amos making it 3-2 to Rovers with a dramatic ending to a thriller. Bolton could not believe what had happened and there was not enough time remaining to find the equaliser. A tough pill to swallow for Bolton and three points thrown away.

table after 39.webp

Bolton picked up some much needed wins against relegation rivals putting 15 points between themselves and Sunderland with 7 games to play. A few more wins should see Bolton secure safety.

DF: 50 points should see us safe I reckon but I want to finish with 55. A safe mid table position and a platform to start building. I'm aware of the squad I've got and there is a lot of potential in there. With a few additions we can begin to challenge in this league.

Another away capitulation at the end there.

Hope that doesn't become a common theme and Dunc can sort that crap out.
