I meant recruitment wise to be fair. I'm not suggesting that we haven't had some good results in that time.

We've had two 11th place, one 7th place and one 8th place finishes in those four years. Not disastrous but no progress was made and we recruited a lot of players, many of whom represented poor value and now we need to get rid of.

After Martinez's first season if you had been told that we'd be in Europe once in the following five years and we'd make a wholly show of ourselves in it due to a lopsided squad, would you have described that as mismanaged?
Not getting a replacement for Lukaku was mismanagement, who to pin that one on is a complex issue. Koeman liked to play off a central striker.Pelle at Soton and in his first season here Lukaku. Not getting Giroud who it would appear he wanted may have been the catalyst for his downfall, who knows.maybe it wasn't mismanagement, maybe we should pin it on Giroud's missus. :)

Giroud would have made us better than we were last season for sure, but he'd have not save Koeman. We'd have still been a paceless team with too many players in some positions and not enough in others.

I thank the lord that Koeman wasn’t allowed to buy Giroud and Sissoko. That would have been another 80 mill down the drain on two players with zero resale value and who probably would have turned off as soon as the rest of the squad did (although Giroud looks a good professional in fairness).

Neither would have solved any of our problems last season though.

The team looks to be playing good football right now. Silva has got the team playing more cohesively and confidently over the last few games. He has managed to turn around the team's form whereas the previous managers of Koeman and Martinez couldn't. Now I know one swallow makes a summer not, but this pleases me a lot and hopefully the players who had a malign influence in the previous seasons are gone or had the presence diminished and for that I'm grateful.

Getting over a rocky start might be the best thing long term for Silva, showing us he has a bit of grit and isn't a panic merchant like most of us. I'm hoping from here on in that he really proves himself. Some of the play yesterday really delighted me. Keep it up and you have another season Marco! 7th is there for the taking.

I said I was happy enough when we got him,but Im not going overboard yet,the last few games have seen a big improvement in results and style of play, forget shouts of West Ham,Arsenal were poor, they looked bad because we made them look poor,if we get a goal scorer in we will easily hit 7th place but we need to properly put pressure on 4/5/6th places next season

Vincent Kompsny says hi
Barely plays. Injured players don't lead anyone.
Ferandhinho, Silva and Aguero. Man city notably dip when these lads don’t play espically fernandinho
Used to be true until Guandogan started playing the Fernandinho role well. Mind you how are those guys leaders? those guys are just great players, never leaders. The leader at City is Kompany but as I said he rarely plays.

We'll never know for sure, but not having a recognised target man definitely didn't help him carry fowards the decent form we'd showed the season before.

He's out-thought:

Klopp (x2), Sarri (x2) and Emery this season, and he set Guardiola a conundrum he only worked out with some effort.

We have a manager here.
I think we might do!

Wasn’t sure when we were shipping in goals, felt like we were going to have the same problems with Marco as we did with the last two.

Since the break he’s sorted out the defence and we’re playing skillful, battling and hard working football. Some of the best all round football I’ve seen as a blue.

I think it’s been a tough first season for many reasons, but the last 5 games are very positive.

The thing is we battered Arsenal a few years ago and never kicked on as a club or a team. Hopefully him and Brands can have a good summer so we can have a more consistent next season.

That wasn’t because we didn’t have Giroud to replace Lukaku. That was because Koeman had built a team based around Barkley Lukaku and Mirallas offensively and he swapped them for Siggurdson Rooney and Sandro. Giroud would have done just as badly as Rooney, Niasse, DCL, or Tosun did based on the fact that the midfield supply lines that had come from Barkley and Davies had now completely disappeared and the one paced Klaasen Siggurdson Rooney were now plodding around doing nothing. Fair enough to Allardyce that he actually set up a balanced team (boring as it was) with a bit of pace up top and out wide but Koeman’s team was as unbalanced as you’ll ever see and I don’t think a striker that relies on service like Giroud because they have no pace could have thrived in it. I think Lukaku would have struggled also. That midfield was the worst in the league.

They set the tone for the match and are the elder statesmen in my opinion they are the leaders of the team.

Nobody can replicate Aguero in that team.
City are noticeably worse off without Silva espically given he plays deeper.

And Gundorgan is class but ferna is much better and it’s notcieable

It's difficult to know how players will turn out in the Prem,Gomes doesn't have lightning pace,DCL has only just started to show the player he could be.Barkley and Lukaku wanted away and were always going to be difficult for him to replace. Sandro...well I swear someone has done a doppelganger swap from the player I watched here in Spain. The Prem is a specialised league. Didn't Huddersfield sign the top scorer in the Dutch league Jahanbakhsh who's done nothing this season.I remember posters here laughing at the idea of signing Jiminez on the back of his record in Portugal.I'm sure there are many more examples.

Hold my hand up, I was ready to get rid of Silva after watford but he’s really turned things around.

Last three results have been brilliant and deservedly so.

Imagine what we could have done with a goalscorer up front?

Lukaku or even Andy Johnson.
